The Green Bay Phoenix take the hardwood with the Marshall Thundering Herd in the CIT college basketball championship.
The Green Bay Phoenix needed a Sandy Cohen III basket in the waning seconds to upend the Texas Southern Panthers 87-86 in OT in the CIT semifinals.
Green Bay was deadly shooting the ball at 54.3% but were only 3-11 at the charity stripe and committed 21 turnovers which kept the 42.9% shooting Tigers in the game.
Cohen saved the Phoenix with a 23 point effort with eight rebounds and seven assists with Trevian Bell adding 21 points with five boards.
ShanQuan Hemphill gave Green Bay 12 points, six boards and five assists followed by PJ Pipes and Josh McNair with a combined 17 points and nine rebounds.
The Marshall Thundering Herd squeezed by the Hampton Pirates 80-78 on Tuesday as a seven point home favorite to advance to the CIT title game.
The Thundering Herd took a 13 point lead in to the intermission but struggled at both ends of the floor over the final 20 minutes with the Pirates posting 12 more shots.
Jon Elmore carried the Marshall offense with a contest high 28 points with nine rebounds and five assists with CJ Burks adding 17 points and four helpers.
The Thundering Herd received 12 points, three blocks and another nine rebounds from Jannson Williams while Taevion Kinsey chipped in with seven points and four pulls.
Green Bay Phoenix are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss and are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 non-conference games and are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games following a straight up win and are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games.
Marshall Thundering Herd are 9-20-1 ATS in their last 30 games overall and are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and are 2-10 ATS in their last 12 games following a ATS loss and are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 vs. Horizon League.
If we look at how each team has played in the tournament I would say Green Bay has performed the best. The catch is the Phoenix struggle on the road but I believe Sandy Cohen III has a big game and his supporting cast steps up so give me the points…
