Delaware Blue Hens (14-19) at Maryland Terrapins (19-13)
|Date & Time||Tuesday November 6, 2018, 7:30 PM (EST)|
The Line: Maryland Terrapins -18.5 -- Over/Under: 143.5
The Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens and the Maryland Terrapins will kick off their respective college basketball seasons on Tuesday from Xfinity Center College Park.
Delaware posted a 14-19 record last year, and finished 6-12 in CAA play for a four-way tie for seventh place. The Hens took out Elon in the first round of the CAA tournament but lost in the quarters to Northeastern.
The Hens lost a couple of seniors to graduation this year in Anthony Mosley and Skye Johnson, but they also add former Mercer RS senior Ryan Johnson, as well as Ithiel Horton, Aleks Novakovich and Matt Veretto as new recruits.
Over on the Maryland side, they finished 19-13 last year, going 8-10 in Big Ten play for an eighth-place finish. The Terrapins lost in the second round of the conference tourney to Wisconsin and declined a CBI bid.
Maryland lost Kevin Hurter and Justin Jackson to the NBA Draft, as well as a trio of graduating seniors. The Terrapins will try to fill that hole with highly-touted recruit Jalen Smith, who should have an impact as a power forward.
Delaware is 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games and 1-3-2 ATS in their last six Tuesday games. The Hens are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six non-conference games and the under is 5-2 in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, Maryland is 5-0 ATS in their last five non-conference games and 7-2 ATS in their last nine Tuesday games. The Terrapins are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall.
The Big Ten was loaded with top-end talent last season (and this year too), so Maryland kind of got lost in the shuffle even though they were a pretty solid team.
As for Delaware, they’re going to want to try and build off that conference tournament win but realistically won’t do a whole lot of damage here unless they get some immediate help from their new faces.
All in all, I have to go with the Terrapins in this opener.
