Second round NCAA college basketball brings us the Maryland Terrapins facing the LSU Tigers.
The Maryland Terrapins had all they could handle in an opening round matchup with Belmont before subduing the Bruins 79-77 on Thursday.
The Terrapins balance prevailed with Jalen Smith leading the way with 19 points and 12 rebounds while Darryl Morsell pumped in another 18 points.
Bruno Fernando gave Maryland 14 points, 13 rebounds and four assists followed by Eric Ayala who netted 12 points and snagged five boards.
The LSU Tigers held off a determined Yale second half come back to knock off the Bulldogs 79-74 as a 6.5 point favorite to advance to round two of the NCAA’s.
Skylar Mays was one of four Tigers to score in double figures with 19 points and three yanks followed by Tremont Waters with 15 points and seven helpers.
The twosome of Naz Reid and Kavell Bigby-Williams gave LSU 14 and ten points along with ten rebounds each while Emmitt Williams and Ja’vonte Smart combined for 17 points and eleven boards.
Maryland Terrapins are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up win and are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games and are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 NCAA Tournament games.
LSU Tigers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS loss and are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record and are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games.
The Terrapins escaped Belmont and LSU held off Yale so both did what they had to do to advance. I just think the Tigers are out to prove they can over come the distraction of losing their coach and can still get the job done and their talent gets another one here…
