The Line: Maryland Terrapins -6 -- Over/Under:
We have some Big Ten conference action on the hardwood Saturday afternoon as the Northwestern Wildcats take on the Maryland Terrapins in a college basketball matchup.
The Northwestern Wildcats will try to keep their momentum going after winning 4 of their last 5 games following a 61-52 win over Michigan last time out. Bryant McIntosh led the Wildcats with 24 points on 8 of 11 shooting, hitting all 3 of his attempts from behind the arc in addition to a team-high 5 assists while Scottie Lindsey added 19 points on 6 of 13 shooting with 4 threes and 7 rebounds as the only other Northwestern player to finish in double figures scoring. Vic Law matched his 7 points with 7 rebounds and a pair of steals, while Gavin Skelly added a team-high 9 rebounds and Dererk Pardon chipped in a pair of blocks. Lindsey leads Northwestern in scoring with 14.2 points per game while Pardon leads the Wildcats on the glass with 6.7 rebounds per game and McIntosh leads the way in assists with 5.4 helpers per game this season. As a team, Northwestern is scoring 70.9 points per game on 43.2% shooting from the field, 34.9% from behind the arc and 75.5% from the foul line this season.
The Maryland Terrapins will be looking to turn things around after dropping 4 of their last 5 games, including a 74-70 loss to Penn State in their last outing. Anthony Cowan led the Terps with 15 points on 4 of 7 shooting, hitting all 3 of his attempts from behind the arc with a team-high 5 assists and 3 steals. Bruno Fernando, Kevin Huerter and Jared Nickens all tied for 2nd with 13 points apiece, with Fernando adding a team-high 9 rebounds. Darryl Morsell added 10 points to round out the scoring in double digits for Maryland in the win. Cowan leads Maryland with an average of 16.2 points and 5 assists per game, while Fernando is the Terrapins’ leading rebounder with 6.2 boards per game this season. As a team, Maryland is scoring 75.1 points per game on 45.9% shooting form the field, 38.9% from behind the arc and 75% from the foul line this season.
Northwestern is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference matchups and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 games overall. Maryland is 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 games overall and 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 home games while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 conference matchups. The road team is 6-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I’ve said before that home court is weighted more in college than pro sports in my opinion as it’s just a different environment and hard for teams to go one the road and compete most nights. However, we are getting an experienced Northwestern team with points on the road in a matchup that’s been dominated ATS by the road team. Plus, the Wildcats are in much better form than Maryland so I’ll take the points with Northwestern here.
