Memphis Tigers -7 -- Over/Under: 160.5
The UConn Huskies and the Memphis Tigers meet in AAC college basketball action from the FedExForum on Sunday afternoon.
The UConn Huskies will look for some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 4 games following an 81-63 loss to Temple in their last outing. Josh Carlton and Christian Vital each had 18 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double with Vital shooting 6 of 13 with 3 threes and a team-high 5 assists. Eric Cobb added 13 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for UConn in the loss. Jalen Adams sprained his MCL in the loss, which will hurt as he leads UConn in scoring with 17 points per game while Vital leads the Huskies in rebounding with 6 boards per game and Alterique Gilbert leads Connecticut in assists with 3.8 assists per game this season. As a team, UConn is averaging 77.5 points per game on 46.1% shooting from the field, 35.6% from behind the 3-point line and 69.7% from the foul line this season.
The Memphis Tigers could use a win after losing 3 straight and 4 of their last 5 games following a 69-64 loss to Cincinnati in their last outing. Jeremiah Martin led the Tigers with 26 points on 9 of 19 shooting with 8 threes and a team-high 5 assists while Kyvon Davenport had 12 points with a pair of threes, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks for the double-doube. Mike Parks Jr. added 11 points and 9 boards to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Memphis in the loss, while Kareem Brewton Jr. had 6 points and 4 assists. Martin leads the Tigers with an average of 16.7 points and 4.3 assists per game while Davenport leads Memphis in rebounding with 7.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Memphis is averaging 82 points per game on 45.4% shooting from the field, 32.6% from behind the 3-point line and 70.3% from the foul line this season.
UConn is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 3-11 ATS in their last 14 road games while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 Sunday games. Memphis is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 10-4 in their last 14 games following a loss. UConn is 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
This is more points than I’d normally feel comfortable laying with Memphis, home or away. However, while UConn has played well ATS lately, the fact is that the Huskies form on the road still leads a lot to be desired, and now the Huskies have to be without their leading scorer for 4-6 weeks after Jalen Adams sprained his MCL. I just think that this is a prime opportunity for Memphis to get back on track against a banged up UConn team, so I’ll lay the points with Memphis here.
