The Line: Memphis Tigers -13.5 -- Over/Under: 148
The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles hope to shock college basketball with an upset of the Memphis Tigers in the season opener.
The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles finished 5th in the Ohio Valley at 19-14. Tennessee Tech barely outscored teams 73.1-72.4 so there wasn’t a tremendous amount of wiggle room.
The Golden Eagles have lost virtually everyone from a lineup that featured five double digit scorers. Forward Courtney Alexander is the top returning scorer at 6.8 points and 7.9 rebounds while South Florida transfer 6-11 Malik Martin averaged 6.4 points and 4.7 boards. The remainder of the Golden Eagles roster are freshman so expect a lineup that changes often.
The Memphis Tigers threatened the top four in the AAC before settling in at 5th at 21-13. That was a great record considering the opposition outscored Memphis 71.2-70.8 with the offense nearly void of long range shooters.
New head coach Penny Hardaway has some returning talent to work with beginning with leading scorer Jeremiah Martin bringing back almost 19 points and 4.3 boards while fellow guard Kareem Brewton Jr. averaged 9.1 points. Forward Kyvon Davenport will give the Tigers muscle after averaging 13.3 points and 6.1 rebounds.
Tennessee Tech are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and Tennessee Tech are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. Memphis are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall and over is 10-3 in Memphis last 13 overall and under is 6-2 in Memphis last 8 Tuesday games.
I believe there is a decent size gap in talent here with the advantage favoring Memphis…
