The Citadel Bulldogs and the Mercer Bears meet in SoCon college basketball action from the Hawkins Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Citadel Bulldogs are in dire need of a win after losing back-to-back games and 10 of their last 11 outings following a 99-61 loss to Wofford in their last outing. Lew Stallworth added 22 points on 10 of 15 shooting with a team-high 5 assists while Zane Najdawl added 13 points and a team-high 9 rebounds as the only other Bulldog to score in double figures in the losing effort. Stallworth leads the Citadel with an average of 18.9 points and 6.1 assists per game while Najdawl leads the Bulldogs in rebounding with 7.5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, the Citadel is averaging the 3rd-most points per game in the country, scoring 87.5 points per game on 45.4% shooting from the field, 33.5% from behind the 3-point line and 72.7% from the foul line this season.

The Mercer Bears will be out to snap a 3-game losing streak after a 74-63 loss to Furman in their last outing. Ross Cummings led the Bears with 16 points while Ethan Stair and Djordje Dimitrijevic each added 10 points to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Mercer in the loss, with Dimitrijevic dishing out a team-high 5 assists while Stair had a share of the team-high with 7 rebounds. Fardaws Aimaq added 6 points and 7 rebounds in the losing effort for the Bears. Cummings leads the Bears in scoring with 17.4 points per game while Aimaq leads Mercer in rebounding with 5.5 rebounds per game and Marcus Cohen leads the Bears in assists with 3.7 assists per game this season. As a team, Mercer is averaging 74.5 points per game on 45.9% shooting from the field, 34.5% from behind the 3-point line and 71.5% from the foul line this season.

The Citadel is 1-9-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games while the under is 8-0 in their last 8 games overall. Mercer is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a loss and 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games following a double-digit loss at home while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record. The Citadel is 3-7 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.

This feels like a lot of points to lay with a Mercer team that’s lost 3 in a row, however those 3 losses came against 3 of the SoCon’s best in Furman, Wofford and UNC-Greensboro. The Citadel on the other hand have been hemorrhaging points lately, giving up at least 80 points in 8 of their 10 conference games so far this season. The Citadel have also been brutal ATS as of late, so while the line is thick, it’s either Mercer or no play for me.

Mercer -8.5
