The VMI Keydets visit the Mercer Bears in a SoCon college basketball tilt on Thursday.
The VMI Keydets defeated Western Carolina 91-83 as a one point home favorite to pick up their first conference win.
This was up for grabs until VMI pulled away late behind 56.1% shooting and 17 forced turnovers to overcome the 55.8% marksmanship of the Catamounts.
Bubba Parham gave the Keydets explosive offense with 33 points and four helpers with Sarju Patel adding 17 points and four pulls.
VMI saw Jake Stephens toss in 16 points with three pulls followed by Myles Lewis with a 13 point, three board effort.
The Mercer Bears avoided a three game skid with a 93-87 victory against Samford as a four point road dog on Saturday.
Mercer jumped to an eleven point lead at the break and held off a late Bulldogs rally behind white hot 54.9% accuracy.
Ross Cummings led the Bears upset with a 32 point explosion followed by an 18 point, four pull performance from Ethan Stair.
Cory Kilby gave Mercer 17 points and three yanks while Jaylen Stowe tossed in 13 points and Djordje Dimitrijevic chipped in with seven points.
VMI Keydets are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Southern and are 16-33-1 ATS in their last 50 road games. Mercer Bears are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 vs. Southern and are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win.
I think the Keydets are a bit better then they have been and Mercer might be a step back but VMI has generally struggled on the road…
