The Wofford Terriers dropped to 16-7 (7-3 Southern) on the season after being defeated by The Citadel Bulldogs, 80-78, this past Thursday. Wofford held a 64-54 lead midway through the 2nd half however, struggled offensively down the stretch and couldn’t fight back after The Citadel took a 76-72 lead with a minute left in regulation. Wofford shot 50.8% from the field however was outrebounded by the Bulldogs by a 44-32 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Terriers was Fletcher Magee who had 21 points and a rebound. On the season, Wofford is averaging 77.4 ppg on 47.8% shooting from the field. The Terriers are averaging 10.7 three-pointers per game on 42.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Wofford has been led by Fletcher Magee (22.3 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.7 apg), Trevor Stumpe (11.9 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 2.2 apg), Cameron Jackson (11.3 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.4 apg, 2.2 spg, 1.4 bpg), and Nathan Hoover (9.9 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 1.3 apg). Defensively, Wofford is allowing their opponents to average 70.5 ppg on 44.9% shooting from the field. The Terriers have a rebound margin of 0.5 and a turnover margin of 1.3.
The Mercer Bears lost their 4th straight game and dropped to 10-13 (3-7 Southern) on the season after being defeated by the Furman Paladins, 85-73, this past Thursday. Mercer had no answers for Furman defensively and couldn’t fight back after falling behind by a 70-54 margin with 7:11 left in regulation. Furman shot 50.9% from the field and 50.0% (15-30) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Bears was Jordan Strawberry who had 18 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and a steal. On the season, Mercer is averaging 75.7 ppg on 46.7% shooting from the field. The Bears are averaging 8.4 three-pointers per game on 37.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Mercer has been led by Ria’n Holland (19.0 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.7 spg), Stephon Jelks (10.7 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 1.6 apg), Demetre Rivers (9.9 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.2 apg), and Jordan Strawberry (9.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 4.1 apg). Defensively, Mercer is holding their opponents to an average of 69.0 ppg on 43.3% shooting from the field. The Bears have a rebound margin of 5.7 and average 6.0 steals per game. Ria’n Holland is currently not available for this matchup as he is currently out indefinitely with a wrist injury.
The Terriers are 12-2 ATS in their last 14 games following a straight up loss however, are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Bears are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
Wofford has won 8 of their last 10 games and has an above average offense that ranks 98th in scoring offense, 44th in FG%, and 5th in 3P-FG%. Mercer has been balanced on both ends of the court this season as they rank 124th in scoring offense and 96th in scoring defense, however, the Bears have lost 7 of their last 10 games and has allowed their opponents to average 78.8 ppg during their 4-game losing streak. Mercer have lost their last two games at home and as I think Wofford has the best player on the court in Fletcher Magee, I’m taking the Terriers and the points in this one.
