Wake Forest +10.5 -- Over/Under: 145.5
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Miami Hurricanes meet in ACC conference college basketball action from the Watsco Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons will look to bounce back from a pair of consecutive losses after an 87-65 loss to Duke in their last outing. Jaylen Hoard led the Demon Deacons with 13 points along with a share of the team-high with 9 rebounds while Brandon Childress and Sharone Wright Jr. each added 12 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Wake in the losing effort with Childress shooting 3 of 9 with a pair of threes and 3 assists while Wright Jr. added 5 rebounds. Olivier Sarr added 5 points and 9 rebounds of his own as well in the loss. Childress leads Wake Forest with an average of 16.9 points and 4.1 assists per game while Hoard leads the Demon Deacons on the glass with 7.8 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Wake Forest is averaging 74.1 points per game on 42.9% shooting from the field, 34.2% from behind the arc and 71.1% from the foul line this season.
The Miami Hurricanes will be out to snap a 3-game losing skid after a 68-62 loss to Florida State in their last outing. Chris Lykes led the ‘Canes with 17 points on 5 of 12 shooting with a 6 of 6 mark from the foul line while Anthony Lawrence II added 14 points and Ebuka Izundu added 13 points on 6 of 10 shooting with a team-high 9 rebounds to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Miami in the loss. Anthony Mack added a team-high 4 assists as well in the losing effort. Lykes leads Miami with an average of 17.5 points and 3.5 assists per game while Izundu leads Miami in rebounding with 9.4 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Miami is averaging 76.5 points per game on 45.8% shooting from the field, 35.4% from 3-point range and 71.1% from the foul line this season.
Wake Forest is 8-22-1 ATS in their last 31 games against a team with a winning record and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 road games while the over is 8-3 in their last 11 conference games. Miami is 8-21 ATS in their last 29 games overall and 11-30 ATS in their last 41 home games while the under is 8-3 in their last 11 games following a loss. Wake Forest is 3-0-1 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
Both of these teams have played some tough opposition during their respective slides, and you could argue that Miami has had the tougher time having played Louisville, Florida State and NC State while Wake Forest played Duke and lost a somewhat winnable game against Georgia Tech. However, while Miami should probably be the favorite at home, I don’t think the Hurricanes deserve to be this heavy of a favorite. It’s not like Miami has been some dominant force at home, as the ‘Canes have covered in just over a quarter of their 41 home games over the last 2-3 years. I’ll take the points with Wake Forest as I just think the Hurricanes are giving up too many points here.
