The Akron Zips and the Miami-Ohio RedHawks meet in college basketball MAC-tion from the John D. Millett Hall on Saturday afternoon.

The Akron Zips will look to find some consistency after splitting their last 14 games following a 51-49 victory over Eastern Michigan in their last outing. Daniel Utomi and Jimond Ivey led the Zips with 12 points and 4 rebounds apiece, with Utomi shooting 4 of 7 with 3 threes while Ivey shot 5 of 7 with a team-high 5 assists. Loren Cristian Jackson added 10 points with a team-high 3 steals to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for the Zips in the win while Tyler Cheese added 9 points with 5 assists and 3 steals and Jeremy Roscoe added 3 steals of his own despite being held scoreless in just 9 minutes on the floor. Utomi leads the Zips in scoring with an average of 15.1 points per game while Ivey leads Akron with averages of 6.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Akron is averaging 72 points per game on 42.4% shooting from the field, 32.6% from behind the 3-point line and 69.1% from the foul line this season.

The Miami-Ohio RedHawks will look to get back to .500 and snap a 4-game losing streak after a 71-59 loss to Toledo in their last outing. Nike Sibande led the RedHawks with 26 points on 6 of 9 shooting with 4 threes and a 10 of 15 mark from the foul line while Dalonte Brown added 10 points as the only other Miami-Ohio player to score in double-digits in the losing effort. Bam Bowman added 6 points and a team-high 7 rebounds as well in the defeat. Sibande leads Miami-Ohio in scoring with 16.9 points per game while Brown leads the RedHawks in rebounding with 5.4 boards per game and Darrian Ringo leads Miami-Ohio in assists with 5.1 helpers per game this season. As a team, Miami-Ohio is averaging 74.2 points per game on 44.5% shooting from the field, 34% from 3-point range and 69.3% from the foul line this season.

Akron is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 conference games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 road games. Miami-Ohio is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 conference games while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record. Akron is 1-11 ATS in the last 12 meetings between these two teams and 0-6 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams at Miami-Ohio.

Akron has had the better run of luck as of late, picking up wins here and there while the one thing that the RedHawks have done consistently as of late is lose. However, neither one of these teams have been good ATS as of late, so with a matchup like that, I tend to look at head-to-head trends to see if anything stands out. Here, Miami-Ohio has flat out owned the Zips over the years, covering in each of the last 6 meetings at home and 11 of the last 12 matchups overall. Sometimes a team just has your number and with that being said, I’ll take the free bucket with Miami-Ohio in this one.

Miami-Ohio +2
