Michigan State Spartans -17 O/U: 138
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the Michigan State Spartans will meet up on the college basketball court Wednesday.
Rutgers comes in here with a 12-13 mark on the year. The Scarlet Knights have lost four of their last five games, dropping to Ohio State, Michigan, Illinois and Iowa during that stretch of outings.
In the loss to the Hawkeyes, Rutgers’ lead scorer was Ron Harper on 16 points with two assists and one rebound. Geo Baker added 13 points with six rebounds and six assists for the Scarlet Knights in that one as well.
Over on the Michigan State side, they’re 21-5 this year. Following a surprising loss to Illinois, Michigan State has won their last three games versus Minnesota, Wisconsin and Ohio State.
In the win over the Buckeyes, Michigan State’s top scorer was Matt McQuaid with 14 points, four assists and five rebounds. Cassius Winston added 13 points and eight assists for the Spartans there and Kenny Goins doubled up on 10 points and 10 boards.
The Knights are 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win and 5-0 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. Rutgers is 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 road games.
Meanwhile, the Spartans are 7-1 ATS in their last eight home games and 12-3 ATS in the last 15 versus the Big Ten. Michigan State is 19-7 ATS in their last 26 overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games.
Aside from one 94-point outburst in a shootout loss to Illinois, the Knights haven’t been north of 70 points since January 21. So needless to say, Rutgers is in a bit of a rut right now. The Spartans have had a few lower-scoring outings lately as well, but given then comparative class of their opponents it’s not hard to explain away. I don’t see a whole lot of reasons not to take Michigan State here.
