The Line: Michigan Wolverines -32.5 -- Over/Under: 126.5
The Chattanooga Mocs and the Michigan Wolverines meet in college basketball action on Friday from the Crisler Center.
The Chattanooga Mocs will look for a massive road win to snap a 3-game losing streak after falling to 2-4 following a 74-66 loss to Jacksonville in their last outing. David Jean-Baptiste led the Mocs with 11 points on a perfect 4 of 4 shooting from the field with a pair of threes while Kevin Easley and Jerry Johnson Jr. each added 10 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Chattanooga in the loss, with Easley adding 8 rebounds. Jonathan Scott chipped in 9 points and matched it with 9 rebounds as well in the losing effort. Easley leads the Mocs in scoring with 15 points per game while Donovann Toatley leads the Mocs in assists with 2.8 assists per game and Thomas Smallwood leads the Mocs in rebounding with 8.8 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Chattanooga is averaging 68.7 points per game on 39.7% shooting from the field, 29.7% from behind the arc and 73.4% from the foul line this season.
The Michigan Wolverines will look to remain unbeaten after improving to 5-0 on the year thanks to a 66-47 pummelling of Providence in their last outing. Ignas Brazdeikis led the Wolverines with 20 points on 7 of 13 shooting with 7 rebounds and a pair of steals while Jon Teske added 17 points as the only other Michigan player to score in double figures in the winning effort. Zavier Simpson chipped in 6 points and a team-high 8 assists as well in the winning effort for Michigan. Charles Matthews scored just 5 points, but still leads Michigan in scoring with 15.8 points per game. Simpson leads Michigan in assists with 6.8 assists per game and Isaiah Livers is the Wolverines’ top rebounder with 6 boards per game this season. As a team, Michigan is averaging 68.4 points on 43.7% shooting from the field, 31.8% from behind the arc and 63% from the foul line this season.
Chattanooga is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games while the under is 8-3 in their last 11 games overall. Michigan is 34-16-3 ATS in their last 53 games overall and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 non-conference games.
This is a ton of points to lay with Michigan, considering the Wolverines haven’t scored much more than the Mocs have this season. However, the difference for me is that Michigan’s defense has been suffocating their opposition, allowing the 2nd-fewest points per game in the country, giving up just 47 per game. The Mocs have also struggled on the road dating back to last season, so while the line isn’t pretty, I have to lay the points as I just don’t see this one being close at all.
