Michigan Wolverines -10 -- Over/Under: 127.5
The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines meet in Big Ten conference college basketball action from the Crisler Center on Tuesday night.
The Ohio State Buckeyes will look to build some momentum after snapping a 5-game losing skid with a huge 70-60 road win over Nebraska in their last outing. Luther Muhammad led the Buckeyes with 24 points on 7 of 12 shooting with 3 threes, 6 rebounds and 3 steals while Andre Wesson and C.J. Jackson each had 10 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Ohio State in the win, with Jackson adding a pair of threes, a team-high 4 assists and a pair of steals. Kaleb Wesson was held to 7 points but pulled down a team-leading 11 rebounds and still leads the Buckeyes with an average of 14.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while the aforementioned C.J. Jackson leads Ohio State in assists with 3.7 assists per game this season. As a team, Ohio State is averaging 74.3 points per game on 46% shooting from the field, 35.8% from behind the arc and 72.2% from the foul line this season.
The Michigan Wolverines will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 69-46 win over Indiana in their last outing. Ignas Brazdeikis led the Wolverines with 20 points on 8 of 12 shooting with 3 threes and 7 rebounds while Xavier Simpson added 12 points on 5 of 9 shooting with a team-high 5 assists and 3 steals. Jon Teske added 11 points with a pair of blocks while Charles Matthews chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Michigan in the winning effort. Brazdeikis leads Michigan in scoring with 15.2 points per game while Teske leads Michigan on the glass with 6.4 rebounds per game and Simpson leads the Wolverines in assists with 5.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Michigan is scoring 71.7 points per game on 45.8% shooting from the field, 35% from behind the arc and 66.8% from the foul line this season. The Wolverines are also one of the nation’s top defensive teams, giving up the 3rd-fewest points per game in the country, allowing just 56.5 points per game this season.
Ohio State is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 conference games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 road games. Michigan is 26-9-1 ATS in their last 36 conference games and 17-7-1 ATS in their last 25 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 games overall. The home team is 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
Ohio State beating Nebraska was huge for the Buckeyes’ confidence, and may be a turning point in saving some sort of face in the season for Ohio State. However, it’s going to be tough when you have to follow up that win against a Michigan team that’s back to looking like one of the best that the country has to offer. The road team has had a lot of success in this matchup, but Michigan has taken care of business for the most part at home, outscoring teams by 16.1 points per game at the Crisler Center this season. Ohio State is outscoring teams by 2.8 points per game on the road, but even in a rivalry game like this one, I just don’t see the Buckeyes breaking through the Wolverines’ defense, so I’ll lay the points with Michigan in this one.
