The Line: Milwaukee Panthers -2 -- Over/Under: 142
The Cleveland State Vikings will travel to UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena to take on the Milwaukee Panthers this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The Cleveland State Vikings lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 5-10 (0-2 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Detroit Mercy Titans, 73-61, this past Sunday night. Cleveland State struggled offensively agianst the Titans and couldn’t fight back after a 9-0 Detroit Mercy run gave the Tians a 51-34 lead with 14:56 left in regulation. Cleveland State shot just 38.6% from the field & 23.1% from beyond the arc in the loss.
On the season, Cleveland State is averaging 74.5 ppg on 42.6% shooting from the field. The Vikings are averaging 9.7 three-pointers per game on 36.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Cleveland State has been led by Tyree Appleby (16.6 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 5.2 apg, 1.6 spg), Stefan Kenic (11.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.4 apg), Jaalam Hill (9.1 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.2 apg), and Kasheem Thomas (7.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 3.1 apg).
Defensively, Cleveland State is allowing their opponents to average 75.8 ppg on 42.9% shooting from the field. The Vikings have a rebound margin of -2.4 and a turnover margin of -1.6.
The Milwaukee Panthers had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 5-9 (0-1 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Green Bay Phoenix, 92-82, this past Saturday. Milwaukee led by a 42-39 margin at halftime, however, struggled defensively in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after the Phoenix took an 81-71 lead with 3:54 left in regulation. Milwaukee allowed Green Bay to shoot 50.0% from the field & 37.5% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Panthers was Darius Roy who had 25 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
On the season, Milwaukee is averaging 71.1 ppg on 41.2% shooting from the field. The Panthers are averaging 8.1 three-pointers per game on 33.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Milwaukee has been led by Darius Roy (16.2 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.1 spg), DeAndre Abram (10.7 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.2 apg), Carson Warren-Newsome (10.6 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.3 apg), and Vance Johnson (10.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg).
Defensively, Milwaukee is allowing their opponents to average 75.8 ppg on 43.1% shooting from the field. The Panthers have a rebound margin of -0.7 and a turnover margin of -1.9.
The Vikings are 11-2 ATS in their last 13 games following a straight up loss and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS loss. The Panthers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 however, are just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
Cleveland State has lost 3 of their last 4 games and has to be disappointed that their offense was only able to muster up 61 points at home agianst a Detroit Mercy team that ranks just 274th in scoring defense. Milwaukee recently put together a solid 3-game winning streak, however, the Panthers are still just 3-3 at home this season and currently rank 257th in scoring offense & 266th in scoring defense. Both of these offenses can struggle to put up points, however, Milwaukee has won 6 of their last 7 games agianst the Vikings and as I just don’t see Cleveland State finding success on the offensive end on the road, I’m taking Milwaukee to cover this small home spread.
