The UIC Flames will travel to UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena to take on the Milwaukee Panthers this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The UIC Flames won their 2nd straight game and improved to 9-9 (3-2 Horizon) on the season after defeating the Cleveland State Vikings, 73-56, this past Saturday. UIC was outstanding on the defensive end and had no trouble securing the victory after a 62-42 lead midway though the 2nd half. UIC shot 44.7% from beyond the arc while holding the Vikings to just 32.7% shooting from the field & 18.5% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Flames was Tarkus Ferguson who had 18 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals.
On the season, UIC is averaging 75.6 ppg on 46.8% shooting from the field. The Flames are averaging 10.5 three-pointers per game on 37.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UIC has been led by Tarkus Ferguson (15.9 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 5.4 apg, 1.3 spg), Marcus Ottey (15.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.2 spg), Godwin Boahen (14.4 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.2 spg), and Jordan Blount (10.2 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.4 spg).
Defensively, UIC is allowing their opponents to average 75.2 ppg on 41.7% shooting from the field. The Flames have a rebound margin of -4.0 and a turnover margin of -0.9.
The Milwaukee Panthers dropped to 7-11 (2-3 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Detroit Mercy Titans, 93-84, this past Saturday. Milwaukee struggled with turnovers agianst the Titans and couldn’t fight back later after a 4-0 run gave Detroit Mercy an 87-78 lead with just 1:05 left in regulation. Milwaukee allowed Detroit Mercy to shoot 50.9% from the field and lost the turnover battle by a 17-8 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Panthers was DeAndre Abram who had 31 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals.
On the season, Milwaukee is averaging 71.2 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Panthers are averaging 8.2 three-pointers per game on 34.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Milwaukee has been led by Darius Roy (16.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.0 spg), DeAndre Abram (12.0 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.2 apg), Vance Johnson (9.9 ppg, 5.1 rpg), and Jake Wright (8.1 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 1.1 apg).
Defensively, Milwaukee is allowing their opponents to average 76.1 ppg on 43.1% shooting from the field. The Panthers have a rebound margin of -2.2 and a turnover margin of -1.7.
The Flames are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 Thursday games and 24-8 ATS in their last 32 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record. The Panthers are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games following a straight up loss and 33-15-3 ATS in their last 51 Thursday games.
UIC has won 5 of their last 7 games and currently rank 138th in scoring offense, 82nd in FG%, and 92nd in defensive FG%. The Flames have been giving up points this season as they currently rank 263rd in scoring defense, however, the defense has been solid so far in conference play as their allowing just 66.0 ppg in their 5 conference games. Milwaukee has alternated wins & losses over their past six games, however, it’s been a struggle for the Panthers on both sides of the ball this season as they currently rank just 249th in scoring offense, 284th in FG%, and 272nd in scoring defense.
UIC has struggled ATS on the road this season, however, even with their recent string of decent play, I don’t have much faith in this Milwaukee team that has struggled on both sides of the ball this season and lost their last home game by a 76-51 margin to Youngstown State. UIC should have the advantage on both ends of the court and as they were able to defeat a better Wright State on the road in late December, I think UIC to cover this small spread is the play here. Good Luck!
