The Eastern Kentucky Colonels will travel to the CFSB Center to take on the Murray State Racers this Saturday night in College Basketball action.

The Eastern Kentucky Colonels dropped to 7-7 (0-1 OVC) on the season after being defeated by the Austin Peay Governors, 93-75, this past Thursday. Eastern Kentucky’s defensive came out flat in their conference opener and the Colonels couldn’t fight back after Austin Peay took a 56-35 halftime lead. Eastern Kentucky shot 45.5% from the field while allowing the Governors to shoot 56.9% from the field & 52.4% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Colonels was Jomaru Brown who had 26 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals.

On the season, Eastern Kentucky is averaging 85.1 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Colonels are averaging 9.1 three-pointers per game on 30.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Eastern Kentucky has been led by Nick Mayo (22.7 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.2 spg, 2.1 bpg), Jomaru Brown (12.0 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.7 spg), Dujuanta Weaver (10.5 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.3 spg), and Kelvin Robinson (7.6 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.1 spg).

Defensively, Eastern Kentucky is allowing their opponents to average 82.9 ppg on 47.0% shooting from the field. The Colonels have a rebound margin of -2.1 and a turnover margin of 5.0.

The Murray State Racers won their 2nd straight game and improved to 10-2 (1-0 OVC) on the season after defeating the Morehead State Eagles, 90-69, this past Thursday. Murray State had their way on the offensive end agianst the Eagles and had no trouble securing the victory after they went into halftime with a 45-26 lead. Murray State shot 56.7% from the field and outrebounded Morehead State by a 43-30 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Racers was Ja Morant who had 16 points, 6 rebounds, 13 assists, 1 block, and steal.

On the season, Murray State is averaging 81.9 ppg on 49.6% shooting from the field. The Racers are averaging 8.2 three-pointers per game on 35.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Murray State has been led by Ja Morant (22.4 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 9.9 apg, 1.9 spg), Shaq Buchanan (12.8 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.3 apg, 2.0 spg, 1.0 bpg), Tevin Brown (12.2 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.6 spg), and Darnell Cowart (7.2 ppg, 4.4 rpg).

The Colonels are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up loss and 10-3-2 ATS in their last 15 road games. The Racers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games vs. OVC opponents and 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games overall.

Eastern Kentucky has lost 3 of their last 4 games and although they have an offense that can put points up on the board as they rank T-17th in scoring offense, the Colonels have really struggled defensively as they rank just 342nd in scoring defense & 314th in defensive FG%. Murray State has been outstanding this season on both ends of the court as they currently rank 45th in scoring offense & 31st in scoring defense.

Eastern Kentucky has a solid player in Nick Mayo, however, Murray State has the best player on the court in Ja Morant who could be a top-10 draft pick in this upcoming NBA draft. Murray State is 8-0 at home on the season and as I think their offense will be able to put up 90+ points on the Eastern Kentucky defense, I’m taking the Racers to cover this large home spread. Good Luck!
