The Line: Nevada Wolf Pack -16 -- Over/Under: 142
The Akron Zips and the Nevada Wolf Pack meet in college basketball action from the Lawlor Events Center on Saturday evening.
The Akron Zips will look for a big road win to build on an 82-60 win over Tennessee State in their last outing. Loren Cristian Jackson led the Zips with 23 points on 6 of 14 shooting with 4 threes and team-highs of 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Jimond Ivey added 19 points with 7 rebounds of his own while Daniel Utomi chipped in 18 points on 6 of 12 shooting with 5 threes to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Akron in the winning effort. Utomi leads Akron in scoring with 15.9 points per game while Ivey leads the Zips in rebounding with 7.1 rebounds per game and Cristian Jackson leads Akron in assists with 4.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Akron is averaging 75.5 points per game on 44.3% shooting from the field, 34.8% from behind the 3-point line and 69.6% from the foul line this season.
The Nevada Wolf Pack will look for a win to remain undefeated after making it an 11-0 start with a 72-68 win over South Dakota State in their last outing. Jordan Caroline led the Wolf Pack with 21 points on 6 of 14 shooting with 3 threes and a team-high 9 rebounds while Caleb Martin came right behind with 20 points, including 4 threes, 5 assists and 3 steals. Cody Martin and Trey Porter each had 12 points to round out the scoring in double figures for Nevada in the win, with Martin adding 6 rebounds and a team-high 6 assists while Porter chipped in 9 rebounds of his own in the winning effort. Caroline leads Nevada by averaging a double-double per game with 18.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game while Cody Martin leads the Wolf Pack with 5.9 assists per game this season. As a team, Nevada is scoring 83.8 points per game on 47.1% shooting from the field, 34.3% from behind the arc and 74.1% from the foul line this season.
Akron is 6-13 ATS in their last 19 road games against a team with a winning home record and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall. Nevada is 38-18-3 ATS in their last 59 home games and 17-8-1 ATS in their last 26 non-conference games while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall.
Nevada has won their last 3 games by 8 points or less, so I can understand why some may be sceptical about laying this many points with Nevada. However, the Wolf Pack are still one of the best in the country and can blow anyone out of the water when the shots are falling. The Wolf Pack already have double-digit wins over UMass, Loyola Chicago, Tulsa and USC, all of whom I have above Akron, so I’ll lay the points with Nevada in this spot.
