New Orleans Privateers +4 -- Over/Under: 139.5
The Lamar Cardinals and New Orleans Privateers will square off at Leonard E. Merrell Center this Thursday night in the 2nd round of the Southland Men’s Tournament.
The 5-seed Lamar Cardinals continue their recent trend of solid play and was able to advance as defeating the 8-seed Houston Baptist Huskies, 81-79, on Thursday night. Lamar was solid on the offensive end against the Huskies and was able to hang on late after taking a 60-50 lead with 8:08 left in regulation. Lamar shot 48.4% from the field and outrebounded the Huskies by a 43-28 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Cardinals was Josh Nzeakor who had a double-double with 25 points, 13 rebounds, and 1 steal.
Coming into their match-up agianst Houston Baptist, Lamar is averaging 78.8 ppg on 45.6% shooting from the field. The Cardinals were averaging 7.0 three-pointers per game on 34.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Lamar has been led by Nick Garth (16.5 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.3 spg), Josh Nzeakor (14.7 ppg, 7.6 rpg), Jordan Hunter (11.3 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.4 spg), and Christian Barrett (7.8 ppg, 7.6 rpg).
Defensively, Lamar was allowing their opponents to average 69.9 ppg on 43.9% shooting from the field. The Cardinals had a rebound margin of 6.7 and a turnover margin of 1.9.
The New Orleans Privateers finished their overall season with a record of 17-12 and earned the 4-seed in the Southland Tournament after finishing conference play with a 12-6 record. New Orleans started off conference with a solid 8-3 record, however, went 0-2 against the top 2 teams in the Southland and come into tournament losing 2 of their last 3 games. New Orleans was led by their defense that ranks 117th in scoring defense, 153rd in defensive FG%, and 8th in steals per game.

Offensively, New Orleans has been led by Ezekiel Charles (12.9 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.0 spg), Bryson Robinson (11.2 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.2 spg), Gurriel Gates (8.9 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.6 apg).

New Orleans won their only match-up against Lamar this season as the Privateers won by a 78-71 margin in OT on the road in early January.
The Cardinals are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS loss and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Privateers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS loss, however, are just 10-21 ATS in their last 31 neutral site games.
Lamar might be the lower seed in this one, but you can make an argument that the Cardinals are playing the best basketball in the Southland Conference as they’ve won 9 straight games which includes a win over the top-seed Sam Houston State Bearkats. New Orleans is a solid club, however, their offense as basically not a threat from beyond the arc and although their defense is solid, they will have a disadvantage on the boards against the Cardinals. New Orleans is playing a much better version of the team they beat in OT earlier this season and as I think the Lamar offense will have success against the Privateers, I’m taking Lamar to cover this spread. Good Luck!
