We have some MAAC-tion on the college basketball schedule Saturday afternoon, as the Fairfield Stags take on the Niagara Purple Eagles.
The Fairfield Stags will be looking to add to their current 3 game winning streak following their 78-65 win over Siena in their last outing. Tyler Nelson led the Stags with 27 points on 9 of 17 shooting with 4 triples and a team-high 5 assists and a pair of steals, while Ferron Flavors Jr. was the only other Stag to finish in double figures scoring with 16 points on 5 of 14 shooting with 4 threes and a team-leading 6 rebounds. Nelson leads Fairfield by averaging 21.8 points and 3.4 assists per game while Jonathan Kasibabu is Fairfield’s leading rebounder with 5.2 boards per game this season. As a team, Fairfield is scoring 75.2 points per game on 44.1% shooting from the field, 33.7% from behind the arc and 71.9% from the foul line this season.
The Niagara Purple Eagles will be looking to stay hot after winning 12 of their last 16 games, including a 95-76 win over Quinnipiac last time out. James Towns led Niagara with 26 points on 8 of 12 shooting with 3 triples and a 7 of 8 mark from the foul line. Keleaf Tate came 2nd with 15 points, hitting all 5 of his 3-point attempts, while Kahlil Dukes and Kevin Larkin each added 12 points apiece. Matt Scott chipped in 11 points to round out the double digit scoring for Niagara in the winning effort for the Purple Eagles. Dukes leads Niagara with an average of 20.9 points and 3.3 assists per game while Marvin Prochet leads the Purple Eagles in rebounding with 7.6 boards per game this season. As a team, Niagara is scoring 83.3 points per game on 44.3% shooting from the field, 36.9% from behind the arc and 72.6% from the foul line this season.
Fairfield is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a win while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games overall. Niagara is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 6-13 ATS in their last 19 home games against a team with a losing road record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. Fairfield is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams and 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings at Niagara.
The Stags have had the success ATS when these two lock up, however, Niagara is heads and shoulders the better team here and the more consistent of the two. I think this is a perfect time for the Eagles to buck the head-to-head trends and with a low line I think they do just that with a win and cover here.
