The Niagara Purple Eagles welcome the Iona Gaels to town in MAAC college basketball action.

Iona has opened their conference slate with a pair of wins after outscoring Fairfield 94-87 as a five point home favorite a week ago.

Iona is a score  first squad that has to light up the scoreboard because the defense tend s to allow points which is how this game played out.

The Gaels big offense saw Tajuan Agee toss in 23 points and haul in ten rebounds with EJ Crawford next in line with 22 points and six boards.

Asante Gist gave Iona 21 points and three yanks while Rickey McGill contributed 15 points, six pulls and nine helpers followed by an eight point, five board effort from Ben Perez.

The Niagara Purple Eagles are staring at an 0-2 start to the conference schedule after suffering a 99-77 loss at Fairfield on Monday as a 2.5 point underdog.

Niagara tends to give up points but their offense was unable to save the day despite an above average scoring night from this unit.

Dominik Fragala was the Purple Eagles only double digit scorer with 20 points in 17 minutes while Marvin Prochet added nine points and four pulls.

Greg King gave Niagara seven points and a team high seven rebounds with Keleaf Tate tossing in seven points and logging four boards.

Iona are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 road games and Iona are 7-19 ATS in their last 26 games overall and over is 21-8-1 in Iona last 30 road games. Niagara Purple Eagles are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic and over is 9-1 in Purple Eagles last 10 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic. Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Niagara and Iona Gaels are 9-4 ATS in the last 13 meetings in Niagara.

Niagara looks like the better squad but can’t be depended on. I’d rather take a small shot at the over and look for a track meet…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
