The Monmouth Hawks and the Niagara Purple Eagles meet in college basketball action from Gallagher Center on Sunday.
Monmouth enters this game at 14-10 on the year. The Hawks are 2-2 in the last four games, falling to Fairfield and Saint Peter’s while otherwise beating Rider and Canisius.
In the win over the Griffins, Monmouth’s George Papas led the way on 32 points with three rebounds and one assist. Ray Salnave added 14 points with two rebounds there, and Deion Hammond put up 11 points with four rebounds.
Over on the Niagara side, they’re 8-16 this year. The Eagles are 2-2 in their last four as well, with losses to Rider and Manhattan and wins over Quinnipiac and Canisius.
In the win over the Griffins, Niagara’s Marcus Hammond led the team on 17 points with eight rebounds and three assists. James Towns added 16 points there, and Greg Kuakumensah had 12 points with five rebounds.
The Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last five Sunday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five home games. Niagara is 6-14 ATS in their last 20 after an ATS win and the under is 5-1 in the last six overall.
Meanwhile, the Hawks are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games and the over is 4-0 in their last four Sunday games. The over is 8-3 in Monmouth’s last 11 overall and 5-2 in their last seven versus a team with a losing straight-up record.
Over the last seven games, Monmouth is 4-3. In the four wins, they’ve scored 82 or more each time, and in the three losses they’ve been at 69 or below. The Hawks have a pretty good offense, and when they’re in sync they can put up some nice totals.
In any case, Niagara has hit 70 points just once in their last six games, but did manage 71 in an 11-point loss the last time these teams played. This should be an interesting matchup but I like Monmouth to cover here.
