The South Carolina State Bulldogs will travel to McDougald-McLendon Arena to take on the North Carolina Central Eagles this Monday night in College Basketball action.

The South Carolina State Bulldogs dropped to 7-22 (5-8 MEAC) on the season after being defeated by the North Carolina A&T Aggies, 63-62, this past Saturday. South Carolina State led by a 35-30 margin at halftime, however, struggled offensively in the 2nd half and allowed the Aggies to avoid the upset loss. South Carolina State allowed North Carolina A&T to shoot 51.9% from the field while the Bulldogs shot just 39.6% from the field and 35.0% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Lavar Harewood who had 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and an assist.

On the season, South Carolina State is averaging 69.2 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs are averaging 5.6 three-pointers on 32.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, South Carolina State has been led by Damani Applewhite (17.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg), Janai Raynor-Powell (10.2 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.1 spg), Lavar Harewood (8.7 ppg, 3.1 rpg), and Ozante Fields (8.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg).

Defensively, South Carolina State is allowing their opponents to average 75.9 ppg on 48.7% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs have a rebound margin of 0.9 and a turnover margin of 0.3.

The North Carolina Central Eagles won their 2nd straight game and improved to 14-14 (9-5 MEAC) on the season after defeating the Savannah State Tigers, 78-69, this past Saturday. North Carolina Central trailed by a 27-24 margin at halftime, however, the Eagles offense had no trouble finding their offense in the 2nd half and was able to pull away for the victory. North Carolina Central shot 40.3% from the field and 23.1% from beyond the arc in the victory.

On the season, North Carolina Central is averaging 72.9 ppg on 45.8% shooting from the field. The Eagles are averaging 6.4 three-pointers per game on 31.3% shooting from the field. Offensively, North Carolina Central has been led by Raasean Davis (15.0 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 1.3 bpg), Jibri Blount (11.1 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.2 spg), Larry McKnight Jr (9.6 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.0 apg), Zacarry Douglas (8.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.3 apg).

Defensively, North Carolina Central is holding their opponents to an average of 67.3 ppg on 43.7% shooting from the field. The Eagles have a rebound margin of 6.9 and a turnover margin of -1.6.

The Bulldogs are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 road games vs. a team with a winning home record, however, are just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Eagles are 3-0-1 ATS in their 4 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record and 3-0-2 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

South Carolina State has won 3 of their last 5 games and come into this game ranked 273rd in scoring offense, 280th in scoring defense, and 347th in defensive FG%.

North Carolina Central has won 4 of their last 5 games and currently rank 176th in scoring offense, 72nd in scoring defense, and 13th in rebound margin.

South Carolina State has been playing much better as of late which included their close game and a North Carolina A&T team that has a 10-3 conference record in the MEAC, however, this is still the same Bulldogs team that has struggled on both ends of the court this season and is just 2-17 on the road this year. North Carolina Central has also been playing some of their best basketball of the season as their only recent loss was agianst the MEAC leaders, Norfolk State, in a close 75-71 loss in OT. The Eagles are a solid defensive team that should have the advantage on the boards in this one and although this game has yet to be lined, my initial thoughts is to take North Carolina Central to cover what I imagine will be a mid-range spread.

Pick:
North Carolina Central Eagles -9.5
