The VMI Keydets will travel to Greensboro Coliseum to take on the UNC Greensboro Spartans this Thursday night in College Basketball action.

The VMI Keydets will lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 7-14 (1-8 Southern) on the season after being defeated by The Citadel Bulldogs, 84-82, this past Saturday. VMI had a late 79-75 lead after trailing by a 44-36 margin at halftime, however, couldn’t hold onto the victory as the Bulldogs were able to escape with a win after a Quayson Williams game-winning layup as time expired. VMI shot 38.7% from the field & 32.1% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Keydets is Bubba Parham who had 24 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals.

On the season, VMI is averaging 75.6 ppg on 42.6% shooting from the field. The Keydets are averaging 9.8 three-pointers per game on 34.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, VMI has been led by Bubba Parham (21.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 3.4 apg), Garrett Gilkeson (11.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.8 spg), Sarju Patel (9.5 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.1 apg), and Greg Parham (7.6 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.1 spg).

Defensively, VMI is allowing their opponents to an average of 79.8 ppg on 46.0% shooting from the field. The Keydets have a rebound margin of -3.1 and average 6.9 steals per game.

The UNC Greensboro Spartans won their 5th straight game and improved to 19-3 (8-1 Southern) on the season after defeating the Mercer Bears, 88-81, this past Saturday. UNC Greensboro defense did an outstanding job forcing turnovers and had little trouble picking up the victory after taking a 75-56 lead with 8:27 left in regulation. UNC Greensboro shot 46.5% from the field and forced Mercer into committing 24 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Spartans was Isaiah Miller who had 22 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and a block.

On the season, UNC Greensboro is averaging 78.1 ppg on 46.6% shooting from the field. The Spartans are averaging 8.0 three-pointers per game on 34.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UNC Greensboro has been led by Francis Alonso (17.3 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.0 spg), Isaiah Miller (14.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.4 apg, 2.8 spg), Kyrin Galloway (9.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg), and Demetrius Troy (7.5 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.3 apg, 1.4 spg).

Defensively, UNC Greensboro is holding their opponents to an average of 66.6 ppg on 43.4% shooting from the field. The Spartans have a rebound margin of -0.2 and a turnover margin of 6.5.

The Keydets are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall, however, just 5-15 ATS in their last 20 games following an ATS win. The Spartans are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games and 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.

VMI has lost 7 of their last 8 games and although they have an offense that ranks T-117th in scoring offense & 24th in three-pointers made per game, the Keydets have struggled defensively as they rank just 333rd in scoring defense & 291st in defensive FG%. UNC Greensboro has won 12 of their last 13 games and has been solid on both ends of the court as they rank 67th in scoring offense, 59th in scoring defense, and 2nd in turnover margin.

VMI once again look like they will be in the basement of the Southern League, however, the Keydets have been solid ATS and gave UNC Greensboro a run for their money in a 71-68 defeat earlier this season. UNC Greensboro is one of the better teams in the Southern Conference this season, however, VMI has covered in 3 of the last 4 matchups against the Spartans as they recently covered on the road against a very good ETSU team, I think the Keydets will do enough with the double-digit points to cover in this one.

VMI Keydets +18
