UNC Wilmington Seahawks -7.5 -- Over/Under: 151
The Elon Phoenix will travel to Trask Coliseum to take on the UNC Wilmington Seahawks this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Elon Phoenix dropped to 6-15 (2-6 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the Charleston Cougars, 72-53, this past Thursday. Elon struggled on the offensive end against the tough Charleston defense and couldn’t fight back after falling behind by a 55-46 margin with 6:18 left in regulation. Elon shot just 39.6% from the field and committed 17 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Phoenix was Tyler Seibring who had 16 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal.
On the season, Elon is averaging 69.5 ppg on 43.4% shooting from the field. The Phoenix are averaging 9.9 three-pointers per game on 35.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Elon has been led by Tyler Seibring (16.7 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.5 apg), Steve Santa Ana (16.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.3 apg), Sheldon Eberhardt (10.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3.8 apg), and Nathan Priddy (7.0 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.4 apg).
Defensively, Elon is holding their opponents to an average of 76.4 ppg on 45.2% shooting from the field. The Phoenix have a rebound margin of -3.0 and a turnover margin of -3.2.
The UNC Wilmington Seahawks snapped their 2-game losing streak and improved to 8-13 (4-4 CAA) on the season after defeating the William & Mary Tribe, 93-88, this past Thursday. UNC Wilmington was outstanding on the offensive end against the Trible and easily secured the victory after taking a 73-57 lead with 6:56 left in regulation. UNC Wilmington shot 50.8% from the field and 41.7% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Seahawks was Devontae Cacok who had a double-double with 22 points, 16 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 steals.
On the season, UNC Wilmington is averaging 77.2 ppg on 45.5% shooting from the field. The Seahawks are averaging 8.2 three-pointers per game on 36.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UNC Wilmington has been led by Devontae Cacok (15.7 ppg, 11.9 rpg, 1.0 spg), Jeantal Cylla (14.0 ppg, 4.7 rpg), Ty Gadsden (10.4 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 2.5 apg), and Kai Toews (8.1 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 7.6 apg).
Defensively, UNC Wilmington is allowing their opponents to average 81.4 ppg on 46.6% shooting from the field. The Seahawks have a rebound margin of 4.3 and a turnover margin of -3.8.
The Phoenix are 9-23 ATS in their last 23 road games and 5-16 ATS in their last 21 games vs. CAA opponents. The Seahawks are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 gams vs a team with a losing straight up record and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games.
Elon has lost 5 of their last 6 games and have struggled on both ends of the court this season as they rank just 273rd in scoring offense & 283rd in scoring defense. UNC Wilmington has won 4 of their last 7 games and although their defense will give up points as they rank 342nd in scoring defense & 309th in defensive FG%, the Seahawks can put up points as they rank T-90th in scoring offense.
Elon is just 3-5 on the road this season and as I just don’t see how the Phoenix defense is going to slow the duo of Devontae Cacok & Jental Cylla, I’m taking the Seahawks to cover this spread at home.
