UNC-Wilmington Seahawks +7.5 -- Over/Under: 152.5
The Northeastern Huskies will travel to Trask Coliseum to take on the UNC Wilmington Seahawks this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The Northeastern Huskies won their 4th straight game and improved to 15-9 (9-3 CAA) on the season after defeating the Elon Phoenix, 72-60 in OT, this past Saturday. Northeastern allowed Elon to fight back from a 52-44 deficit with 8:44 left in regulation to force OT, however, the Huskies defense shutout the Phoenix in OT and easily went on for the victory. Northeastern held Elon to just 35.2% shooting from the field and 22.6% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Huskies was Bolden Brace who had a double-double with 20 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and 2 steals.
On the season, Northeastern is averaging 75.2 ppg on 47.4% shooting from the field. The Huskies are averaging 9.3 three-pointers per game on 38.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Northeastern has been led by Vasa Pusica (17.0 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.4 spg), Jordan Roland (15.2 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.3 spg), Donnell Gresham Jr. (10.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.2 spg), and Bolden Brace (9.8 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.5 apg).
Defensively, Northeastern is allowing their opponents to average 71.1 ppg on 45.8% shooting from the field. The Huskies have a rebound margin of -0.3 and a turnover margin of -0.3.
The UNC Wilmington Seahawks lost their 5th straight game and dropped to 8-18 (4-9 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the Drexel Dragons, 69-57, this past Thursday. UNC Wilmington led by a 46-45 margin midway through the 2nd half, however, struggled defensively down the stretch and couldn’t fight back after Drexel took a 61-52 lead with just 2:51 left in regulation. UNC Wilmington shot just 38.1% from the field and 11.1% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Seahawks was Devontae Cacok who had a double-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and a block.
On the season, UNC Wilmington is averaging 76.8 ppg on 44.8% shooting from the field. The Seahawks are averaging 8.0 three-pointers per game on 35.3% shooting from beyond arc. Offensively, UNC Wilmington has been led by Devontae Cacok (15.5 ppg, 12.0 rpg, 1.0 spg), Jental Cylla (13.5 ppg, 4.4 rpg), Ty Gadsden (10.7 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 2.4 apg), and Kai Toews (8.3 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 7.7 apg).
Defensively, UNC Wilmington is allowing their opponents to average 81.5 ppg on 47.7% shooting from the field. The Seahawks have a rebound margin of 3.7 and a turnover margin of -3.0.
The Huskies are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Seahawks are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Northeastern has won 8 of their last 9 games and currently rank T-121st in scoring offense, 46th in FG%, and T-175th in scoring defense.
UNC Wilmington has lost 7 of their last 8 games and although they can put up some points as they rank 88th in scoring offense, the Seahawks have struggled defensively as they currently rank just 342nd in scoring defense & 336th in defensive FG%.
Northeastern continues to pile up wins, however, the Huskies are a hard team ATS to get a read on as although they have the talent to beat anyone in the CAA by double-digits, they can be inconsistent at times as they showed in their near upset loss at home against Elon. UNC Wilmington has come talent on the offensive end, however, they don’t have much depth and as we saw last season, the defense has really struggled. Northeastern won by a 88-71 margin at home against the Seahawks earlier this season and as UNC Wilmington recently loss to both Elon & James Madison by an average of 8.0 ppg, I think Northeastern will be able to do enough in this one to cover this large home spread. Good Luck!
