CUSA college basketball brings us the North Texas Mean Green hosting the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles fell to 0-2 in the CUSA following a 73-65 defeat at Rice. Southern Miss appeared to be in control with a nine point lead at the break before scoring 23 second half points.
Both teams sank shots in the 40% range with the Golden Eagles managing seven more shots with Rice winning on the strength of a 17-5 advantage at the stripe.
Tyree Williams led a balanced Southern Miss offense with 17 points and nine helpers on 7-15 accuracy with LaDavius Draine tossed in 12 points on 4-9 shooting before fouling out.
The Golden Eagles received ten points from Tim Rowe while Leonard Harper-Baker and Cortez Edwards each scored eight points and hauled in ten rebounds.
The North Texas Mean Green edged out Louisiana Tech 63-59 as a 4.5 point home favorite to kick off their CUSA slate at 2-0.
North Texas appeared to be heading for an easy win with a 12 point lead after 20 minutes before fighting off a late Bulldogs rally.
The Mean Green rode the production of Zachary Simmons with his 16 points, six boards and three blocks while Jordan Duffy added 13 points and five pulls.
North Texas received another 13 points and seven rebounds from Michael Miller while Ryan Woolridge added nine points and five boards.
