The Charleston Cougars and the Northeastern Huskies meet in CAA conference college basketball action from the Matthews Arena on Thursday night.

The Charleston Cougars will look to pick up some steam after a 71-58 win over Delaware in their last outing. Grant Riller led the Cougars with 21 points on 7 of 10 shooting with a pair of threes and a pair of steals while Jarrell Brantley added 18 points on 8 of 12 shooting with a team-high 12 rebounds and 3 assists as the only other Cougar to score in double figures for Charleston in the winning effort. Riller leads Charleston with an average of 21.9 points and 4.3 assists per game while Brantley leads the Cougars on the glass with 8 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Charleston is averaging 73.4 points per game on 47.2% shooting from the field, 31.3% from behind the arc and 75.1% from the foul line this season.

The Northeastern Huskies will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 90-70 win over William & Mary in their last outing. Shawn Occeus led the Huskies with 21 points on 7 of 12 shooting with 5 threes and a team-high 8 assists while Jordan Roland added 15 points on 5 of 8 shooting with a pair of threes and 3 steals. Vasa Pusica added 13 points and Tomas Murphy added 10 points in 12 minutes on the floor to finish off the group of double-digit scorers for Northeastern in the win. Donnell Gresham Jr. added 9 points and a team-high 6 rebounds as well in the victory. Roland leads Northeastern in scoring with 15.1 points per game while Gresham Jr. leads the Huskies with averages of 5.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Northeastern is averaging 75.2 points per game on 48.6% shooting from the field, 38.8% from behind the arc and 74.4% from the foul line this season.

Charleston is 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record and 21-53-2 ATS in their last 76 games following an ATS win while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Northeastern is 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 home games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Charleston is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams and 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams at Northeastern.

Unless there’s something that Vegas knows that I don’t, I’m not sure why Northeastern is favored here. I understand that home court/home field is weighted a lot heavier in college sports than it is in the pros, but it’s not like home court has mattered for the Huskies, as Northeastern has failed to cover in any of their last 4 home games and haven’t covered in any of the last 5 visits from Charleston in this matchup. I think we are getting points with the better team, which is never a bad thing for increasing your bankroll, so I’ll take the Cougars with the points and put a little bit extra on the money line as well.

Charleston +3.5
