The Northern Kentucky Norse and the Northern Illinois Huskies meet in college basketball action on Friday night.
The Northern Kentucky Norse will look to build on their strong start to the season coming in the form of a 102-38 romp over subdivision Wilmington (OH) in their last outing. Jalen Tate led the Norse with 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting with 8 rebounds while Drew McDonald added 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting with 9 boards. Dantez Walton, Silas Adheke and Adrian Nelson each had 10 points to round out the scoring in double figures for the Norse, with Walton adding 8 rebounds while Adheke added 10 boards for the double-double and Nelson went a perfect 4 of 4 shooting from the floor. As a team, Northern Kentucky is averaging 102 points per game on 58.5% shooting from the field, 31.2% from behind the arc and 53.8% from the foul line this season.
The Northern Illinois Huskies will be looking to add to their own strong start after a 93-54 win over subdivision Rockford in their last time up. Lacey James led the Huskies with 17 points on 6 of 8 shooting while Jaylen Key added 15 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Noah McCarty added 14 points on 6 of 7 shooting. Anastasios Demogerontas and Austin Richie each had 10 points to finish off the double digit scoring for the Huskies in the win, Levi Bradley had 9 points and a team-high 9 rebounds while Alize Travis added 5 points to match his team-high 5 assists. As a team, Northern Illinois is averaging 93 points per game on 61.7% shooting from the field, 25% from behind the 3-point line and 66.7% from the foul line this season.
Northern Kentucky is 14-4 ATS in their last 18 non-conference games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. Northern Illinois is 7-3 ATS in their lat 10 home games and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 Friday games while the under is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games overall.
I’m not really reading too much into both teams’ wins to start the year, and getting points with the Huskies at home is a tempting proposition. However, the Norse are one of the deeper and underrated teams in the country and Northern Kentucky has been solid out of conference ATS dating back to last season. I’ll lay the points as Northern Kentucky uses this as a statement game early in the season.
