Northern Iowa Panthers -3.5 O/U: 129
The Evansville Purple Aces and the Northern Iowa Panthers will match up in college basketball activity on Saturday.
Evansville tumbles into this game at 9-11 on the season. After a 2-1 run of games, the Purple Aces have lost their last two outings versus Illinois State last weekend and Drake on Wednesday.
In the loss to the Bulldogs, Evansville’s John Hall and Marty Hill each had 13 points and seven rebounds to lead the team in both categories. KJ Riley added 12 points and five rebounds for the Aces in that one as well.
Over on the Northern Iowa side, they’re 8-12 on the year. After winning consecutive games versus Drake and Indiana State, the Panthers have lost their last two to Valparaiso and Southern Illinois.
In the loss to the Salukis, Northern Iowa’s AJ Green led the scoring with 22 points, two rebounds and one assist. The only other Panther in double-figures was Isaiah Brown with 10 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
The Aces are 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 following an ATS loss and 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight versus a team with a losing straight-up record. Evansville is 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 after a straight-up loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 versus the MVC and 15-33-3 ATS in their last 51 overall. Northern Iowa is 7-19 ATS in their last 26 Saturday games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven home games.
Evansville had a couple of decent efforts leading up to that Drake game (70 points in each of their previous two), but really couldn’t get close for most of the game versus the Bulldogs.
Northern Iowa likes to take things slower on offense, so they should be able to tamper down any energetic run by the Aces. That’s the theory anyway; the Panthers coughed up a huge lead versus the Salukis and lost the second half 51-27.
Still, I like Evansville to get in close here, and I’ll take the Aces on the cover.
