The Milwaukee Panthers will travel to BB&T arena to take on the Northern Kentucky Norse this Saturday night in College Basketball action.
The Milwaukee Panthers had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 9-12 (4-4 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Wright State Raiders, 56-54, this past Thursday. Milwaukee fought back from a 44-36 deficit midway through the 2nd half to tie the game late, however, couldn’t secure the upset victory after being held scoreless for the final of 2:37 of regulation. Milwaukee shot just 38.5% from the field and was outrebounded by the Raiders by a 38-30 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Panthers was Darius Roy who had 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and a block.
On the season, Milwaukee is averaging 70.5 ppg on 42.2% shooting from the field. The Panthers are averaging 8.0 three-pointers per game on 34.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Milwaukee has been led by Darius Roy (16.0 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.1 spg), DeAndre Abram (12.2 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 1.1 apg), Vance Johnson (9.7 ppg, 5.1 rpg), and Carson Warren-Newsome (9.0 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.2 apg).
Defensively, Milwaukee is allowing their opponents to average 73.9 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Panthers have a rebound margin of -1.8 and a turnover margin of -1.8.
The Northern Kentucky Norse won their 5th straight game and improved to 17-4 (7-1 Horizon) on the season after defeating the Green Bay Phoenix, 87-65, this past Thursday. Northern Kentucky dominated Green Bay on both ends of the court and had no trouble securing the victory after taking a 66-44 lead with 7:38 left in regulation. Northern Kentucky shot 52.2% from the field and outrebounded the Norse by a 44-28 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Norse was Chris Vogt who had a double-double with 20 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and a steal in 26 minutes from off the bench.
On the season, Northern Kentucky is averaging 79.8 ppg on 48.2% shooting from the field. The Norse are averaging 9.1 three-pointers per game on 36.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Northern Kentucky has been led by Drew McDonald (18.7 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 2.7 apg), Tyler Sharpe (14.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.5 spg), Jalen Tate (13.4 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.1 spg), and Dantez Walton (11.1 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, Northern Kentucky is holding their opponents to an average of 67.1 ppg on 40.3% shooting from the field. The Norse have a rebound margin of 5.0 and a turnover margin of 1.3.
The Panthers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up loss. The Norse are 18-8 ATS in their last 26 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400, however, just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games.
Milwaukee has won 3 of their last 5 games, however, has struggled on both ends of the court as they currently rank just 250th in scoring offense & 244th in scoring defense. Northern Kentucky has won 9 of their last 10 games and has been solid on both ends of the court as they currently rank 48th in scoring offense, 38th in FG%, and 75th in scoring defense.
Milwaukee is a young team that has improved as the season has gone on, however, this is going to be a tough game as the Northern Kentucky is the clear favorite to win the Horizon this season. The Norse are the better team on both ends of the court and as they’ve won 3 of their last 4 home games by 15+ points, I think Drew McDonald and the Norse do enough in this one to cover this large spread.
