We have some Horizon League college basketball action Saturday night as the Green Bay Phoenix take on the Northern Kentucky Norse.
The Green Bay Phoenix come into this one looking to rebound from back-to-back conference losses, including a 68-64 loss to Wright State in their last outing. Sandy Cohen III led the Phoenix with 21 points on 7 of 14 shooting with 10 rebounds and 3 steals for the double-double, while David Jesperson came 2nd with 18 points and Khalil Small added 11 points with a team-high 4 assists. Kameron Hankerson added 10 points to round out the quartet of double digit scorers for the Phoenix in the losing effort. Small leads Green Bay with an average of 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Green Bay is scoring 73.9 points per game on 41.4% shooting from the field, 33.5% from behind the arc and 75.9% from the foul line this season.
The Northern Kentucky Norse will look to stay hot after winning 4 straight and 7 of their last 8 games following a 54-52 win over Milwaukee in their last outing. Drew McDonald led the Norse with 16 points on 7 of 12 shooting with 10 rebounds for the double-double, while Tyler Sharpe added 12 points as the only other Northern Kentucky player to finish in double figures scoring. LaVone Holland II added 6 points to match his team-high 6 assists in the winning effort. McDonald leads the Norse with an average of 17.1 points and 9 rebounds per game while Holland II is Northern Kentucky’s top assist man with 4.7 assists per game this season. As a team, Northern Kentucky is scoring 78.8 points per game on 48.6% shooting from the field, 35.4% from behind the arc and 72.4% from the foul line this season.
Green Bay is 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 conference matchups. Northern Kentucky is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 33-16-2 ATS in their last 51 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 conference matchups. Green Bay is 4-0-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
Green Bay may not be participating in any postseason action, but they’re putting a better foot forward as of late. I have no doubt that Northern Kentucky will be the top seed in the Horizon League and could very well represent the conference come March, but I think this is way too many points considering the Norse’s struggled ATS at home and Green Bay’s success ATS in this matchup, so I’ll take the points with the Phoenix here.
