The Line: Northwestern Wildcats -2 -- Over/Under:
Up at Allstate Arena on Wednesday, the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Northwestern Wildcats are matching up in college basketball activity.
Minnesota is currently sitting at 13-4 this season. The Gophers had a five-game winning streak going but blew it with a loss to Indiana in their last game. In that one, Minnesota’s Nate Mason put up 22 points.
Leading the Golden Gophers in scoring this season is Jordan Murphy with 18.9 PPG and 12.7 RPG, and Mason has 16.0 PPG. Also in double-digits for Minnesota are Amir Coffey (14.1 PPG) and Reggie Lynch (10.1 PPG; 8.0 RPG).
As for Northwestern they’ve got a 10-7 record this year. The wildcats have lost three of their last four games, most recently to Penn State on Friday. In that Nittany Lions game, Northwestern’s Bryant McIntosh put up 18 points.
Leading the charge for Northwestern this year is Scottie Lindsey with 14.2 PPG, while McIntosh has 13.6 PPG and 5.4 RPG. The Wildcats also have Vic Law (12.7 PPG) and Dererk Pardon (12.0 PPG; 6.7 RPG) in double-figures.
Minnesota is 9-19 ATS in their last 28 Wednesday games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall. The under is 5-1 in the Gophers’ last six overall and the over is 6-1 in their last seven Wednesday games.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats are 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. Northwestern is also 7-2 ATS in their last nine games following a straight-up loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five versus the Big Ten.
Minnesota looked pretty good during their winning streak, but in all honesty they didn’t really play anyone of consequence. As for Northwestern, they’ve been coming up limp on the scoreboard a lot lately, and have only managed 118 points across their last pair. Still, I think the Wildcats have the defense to get it done here and cover.
