The Baylor Bears and Notre Dame Fighting Irish meet Sunday in the Championship of the college basketball NCAAW Tournament at the Amalie Arena.
The Baylor Bears look to win their third championship in school history and first since 2012. Kalani Brown is averaging 15.5 points and 8.1 rebounds while Lauren Cox is averaging 12.9 points and 8.3 rebounds. Chloe Jackson is the third double-digit scorer and Juicy Landrum is grabbing five rebounds. The Baylor Bears are shooting 37.8 percent from beyond the arc and 68.2 percent from the free throw line. The Baylor Bears are allowing 29.6 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 47.6 rebounds per game. The Baylor Bears have won each of their last 14 non-home games.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish look to win their third championship in school history, all coming since 2001. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are averaging 88.8 points on 51.2 percent shooting and allowing 64.5 points on 37.2 percent shooting. Arike Ogunbowale is averaging 21.5 points and 4.9 rebounds while Jessica Shepard is averaging 16.8 points and 10.3 rebounds. Jackie Young is the third double-digit scorer and Brianna Turner is grabbing 7.7 rebounds. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are shooting 36.2 percent from beyond the arc and 74.4 percent from the free throw line. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are allowing 28.6 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 44.3 rebounds per game. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have won their last eight non-home games.
You can make a strong case for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish given the talented backcourt that always keeps them in games and a coaching staff that's as good as there is in the country. When Notre Dame was on the ropes Friday night against UConn, the Irish didn't panic, buckled down at both ends of the floor and found a way to advance. With that said, the Baylor Bears have been the most consistent team on the women's side all season long and has been in complete control of every game since New Years Eve, winning most of those games by double digits. Baylor is going to slow the tempo, control the glass and turn this into a pace that makes Notre Dame uncomfortable. We're getting the best team in the country in a near pick em game. I have to side with the Baylor Bears.
