Notre Dame Fighting Irish -5.5 -- Over/Under:
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish meet in ACC college basketball action from the Purcell Pavilion on Sunday evening.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will look to snap a 4-game losing skid after losing 6 of their last 7 games with a 65-42 loss to Clemson in their last outing. James Banks III led the Jackets with 13 points along with team-highs of 8 rebounds and a whopping 7 blocks while Brandon Alston added 11 points as the only other Georgia Tech player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Jose Alvarado had just 3 points on 1 of 10 shooting with a team-high 4 assists but despite the off night, Alvarado still leads Georgia Tech with an average of 12 points and 3.4 assists per game while Banks III leads the Yellow Jackets in rebounding with 7.3 boards per game this season. As a team, Georgia Tech is averaging 65.8 points per game on 43.9% shooting from the field, 29.3% from behind the arc and 70.3% from the foul line this season.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish desperately need a win after losing 6 of their last 7 and 8 of their last 10 games following a 62-47 loss to Miami in their last outing. D.J. Harvey led the Irish with 14 points on 4 of 8 shooting with a pair of threes while John Mooney had 11 points and 6 rebounds as the only other Notre Dame player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Nikola Djogo had a team-high 7 rebounds while Temple Gibbs was held to just 2 points on 1 of 9 shooting from the floor. Mooney leads the irish by averaging a double-double per game with 14.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game while Gibbs leads Notre Dame in assists with 3.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Notre Dame is averaging 71.7 points per game on 40.5% shooting from the field, 32.5% from behind the arc and 74.5% from the foul line this season.
Georgia Tech is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games and 19-9 ATS in their last 28 games overall while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 conference games. Notre Dame is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 5-16 ATS in their last 21 home games while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 conference games. Georgia Tech is 11-0-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings between these two teams and 4-0-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams at Notre Dame.
Georgia Tech has been brutal offensively during conference play, scoring 63 points or less in their last 7 games and in 8 of their last 9 games so I can understand why Notre Dame would be favored here. However, Notre Dame hasn’t been that much better offensively, and the way that the Irish have been performing ATS both overall and at home as of late is far from inspiring and if we’re being honest, Notre Dame probably shouldn’t be favored against anybody. Add in the fact that the Yellow Jackets have been nothing short of dominant in this matchup, and I think the points with Georgia Tech is the way to go in this matchup.
