The IUPUI Jaguars will travel to the Athletics Center O’rena to take on the season Oakland Golden Grizzlies this Sunday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The IUPUI Jaguars lost their 4th straight game and dropped to 7-15 (4-7 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Detroit Mercy Titans, 74-60, this past Friday. IUPUI allowed Detroit to race out to a quick 24-7 lead and never got within 9-points of the lead for the remainder of the game. IUPUI shot just 41.4% from the field against the below average Detroit Mercy defense and committed 18 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Jaguars was Evan Hall who had 10 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal. On the season, IUPUI is averaging 67.6 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Jaguars are averaging 7.4 three-pointers per game on 34.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, IUPUI has been led by Aaron Brennan (12.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.0 spg), Ron Patterson (11.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.2 spg), T.J. Henderson (9.7 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.0 apg), and Evan Hall (7.7 ppg, 5.6 rpg). Defensively, IUPUI is allowing their opponents to average 73.2 ppg on 48.1% shooting from the field. The Panthers have a rebound margin of -1.3 and a turnover margin of 1.0.
The Oakland Golden Grizzlies lost their 2nd consecutive game and dropped to 14-10 (6-5 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the UIC Flames, 79-73, this past Friday. Oakland trailed by a 40-30 margin at halftime and couldn’t fight back after a 5-0 Flames run gave UIC a 76-69 lead with 0:32 seconds left in regulation. Oakland struggled offensively against the Flames as the Golden Grizzlies shot just 36.5% from the field and 13.6% (3-22) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Golden Grizzlies was Martez Walker who had 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. On the season, Oakland is averaging 80.1 ppg on 45.2% shooting from the field. The Golden Grizzlies are averaging 8.8 three-pointers per game on 36.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Oakland has been led by Kendrick Nunn (26.0 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1.4 spg), Jalen Hayes (19.1 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.0 spg), Martez Walker (18.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.6 apg), and Isaiah Brock (4.7 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 2.7 bpg). Defensively, Oakland is allowing their opponents to average 78.5 ppg on 45.7% shooting from the field. The Golden Grizzlies have a rebound margin of -1.3 and a turnover margin of -0.9.
The Jaguars are 12-2 ATS in their last 14 Sunday games however, are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games. The Golden Grizzlies are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 0-6 ATS in their last 6 home games.
IUPUI has had a brutal road trip over the past two weeks as they’ve lost all four away games and are averaging just 62.8 ppg in that span. The Jaguars have struggled on both ends of the court this season as they come into this game ranked 303rd in scoring offense and 207th in scoring defense. Oakland has won 5 of their last 7 games and has been led by their offense that currently ranks 49th in scoring offense and 80th in three-pointers made per game. Oakland has a defense in which you can score on, however, IUPUI is just 1-13 on the road this season and as I think Kendrick Nunn and the Golden Grizzlies offense will be able to put up plenty of points at home, I’m taking Oakland to cover this large home spread.
