Coming up on Sunday from Value City Arena, the Illinois Fighting Illini and the Ohio State Buckeyes will be meeting up in college basketball action.
Illinois enters this game with a 12-11 record overall. The Illini had lost six in a row, but then won their most recent two, including Tuesday’s game versus Rutgers. In that one, Illinois’ Kipper Nichols managed 19 points.
Leron Black leads the Illini in scoring this year with 14.5 PPG and 5.2 RPG—also a team-high. The only other Illinois player in double-digits is Trent Frazier (11.7 PPG), but Michael Finke is close on 9.9 PPG.
Over on the Ohio State side, they’re sitting at 19-5 on the year. After falling to Penn State on January 25, the Buckeyes bounced back to trounce Indiana in their last outing. In that game, Ohio State forward Jae’Sean Tate put up 16 points.
Heading up the scoring for Ohio State this year is Keita Bates-Diop, with 19.6 PPG and 8.8 RPG. Also in the double-digit club for the Buckeyes are Tate (12.9 PPG), CJ Jackson (12.9 PPG) and Kaleb Wilson (11.3 PPG).
The Illini are 4-1 ATS in their last five Sunday games and 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 road games. Illinois is also 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight games overall and 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight versus the Big Ten.
Meanwhile, the Buckeyes are 5-1 ATS in their last six games following an ATS win and 9-2 ATS in the last 11 versus the Big Ten. Ohio State is also 7-2 ATS in the last nine overall and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games following a straight-up win.
After an offensive lull, the Fighting Illini have picked it up over the last three games, with at least 73 in each one. Illinois also beat Rutgers by 31, holding the Knights to just 60 points. As for Ohio State, they were blitzed for 82 points by the Nittany Lions, but got back to their defensive roots by allowing 56 to Indiana. I fell like Ohio State will keep it going and cover here.
