The North Texas Mean Green will look for a big road win to remain unbeaten after improving to 8-0 with a 75-66 win over Saint Peter’s in their last outing. Umoja Gibson led the Mean Green with 16 points on 4 of 9 shooting with 3 triples while Zachary Simmons added 15 points with 3 blocks and Ryan Woolridge chipped in 14 points with a team-high 5 assists and 3 steals. Roosevelt Smart added 13 points to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for UNT in the win, while Jorden Duffy and Michael Miller each had a team-high 6 rebounds. Gibson leads the Mean Green in scoring with 16 points per game while Woolridge leads UNT in assists with 5.8 assists per game and Simmons leads North Texas on the glass with 5.9 rebounds per game this season. As a team, North Texas is averaging 80.9 points per game on 51.1% shooting from the field, 51.1% from the field, 42.6% from behind the 3-point line and 69.8% from the foul line this season.
The Oklahoma Sooners will look to build on their 5-1 start to the year after a 65-54 win over Dayton in their last outing. Christian James led Oklahoma with 21 points on 8 of 15 shooting with 4 threes and a team-high 4 assists while Miles Reynolds added 17 points with a 13 of 14 mark from the foul line and Jamuni McNeace added 16 points with a team-high 8 rebounds and 3 blocks to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Oklahoma in the win. North Texas is 13-4 ATS in their last 17 road games and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 non-conference games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against the Big 12. Oklahoma is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 non-conference games.
I’ve been high on North Texas to start the year, but the fact is that the Mean Green haven’t exactly played the toughest schedule in the country, while Oklahoma has played much stiffer competition, ended up 5-1 SU and have covered 4 of their first 6 games to start the year. North Texas could very well prove me wrong and pull off a big road upset, but I just think the Sooners are too talented to not win this one by double figures so I’ll lay the points with Oklahoma here.
