The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and Old Dominion Monarchs will square off at the Ford Center At The Star this Thursday night in the Quarterfinals of C-USA Men’s Championship.

The 8-seed Louisiana Tech Bulldogs was able to overcome a lack-luster offensive performance against the 9-seed FAU Owls and advance after defeating FAU by a 57-56 margin in the 1st round of the C-USA Men’s Championship on Wednesday night. Louisiana Tech trailed by a 34-20 margin at halftime, however, dominated the Owls on the defensive end in the 2nd half and was able to secure the victory after the Owls missed a game-tying FT with just :01 second left in regulation. Louisiana Tech shot just 34.0% from the field, however, held the Owls to just 38.0% shooting from the field and 28.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was DaQuan Bracey who had 17 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

Coming into their match-up agianst FAU, Louisiana Tech was averaging 73.3 ppg on 43.9% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs were averaging 7.8 three-pointers per game on 33.7 shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Louisiana Tech has been led by DaQuan Bracey (15.6 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 4.1 apg, 1.3 spg), Anthony Duruji (12.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.2 bpg), Amorie Archibald (10.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.9 apg), and JaColby Pemberton (9.9 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 1.3 apg).

Defensively, Louisiana Tech was holding their opponents to an average of 68.5 ppg on 43.0% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs had a rebound margin of 1.1 and a turnover margin of 1.7.

The Old Dominion Monarchs, behind their outstanding defense, finished their regular season with an overall record of 23-8 and earned the top-seed in the C-USA Men’s Championship after going 13-5 in conference play. Old Dominion had solid non-conference wins against VCU & Syracuse on the season and although the Monarchs did suffer back-to-back losses in the final week of the regular season, I’m not reading too much into that as the Monarchs had already secured their 1st ever C-USA regular season title. Old Dominion can struggle putting up points on the board, however, they don’t need to much offensively as they come into this game ranked T-8th in scoring defense, 9th in defensive FG%, and 32nd in rebound margin.

On the season, Old Dominion is averaging 66.8 ppg on 41.3% shooting from the field. The Monarchs are averaging 7.8 three-pointers per game on 35.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Old Dominion has been led by B.J. Stith (17.3 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 1.1 apg), Ahmad Caver (16.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 5.4 apg, 1.5 spg), Xavier Green (9.1 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.9 apg), and Jason Wade (4.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.0 spg).

Defensively, Old Dominion is holding their opponents to an average of 61.2 ppg on 38.9% shooting from the field. The Monarchs have a rebound margin of 5.1 and a turnover margin of 0.4.

Old Dominion won their only match-up agianst Louisiana Tech this season in a tight 64-63 victory at home in mid-January.

The Bulldogs are just 1-3 ATS in their last 4 games, however, are 16-13-1 ATS on the season. The Monarchs are 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 games and have a 14-17 ATS record on the season.

Louisiana Tech can be a bit inconsistent at times, as they showed in the 1st half in their recent game against FAU, however, this is a team that is solid a both ends of the court as they currently rank 153rd in scoring offense and 96th in scoring defense. Old Dominion has been the team to beat all season in the C-USA, however, this is a team that can really struggle to score the basketball and didn't do well ATS down the stretch. I think this ODU team can beat anyone with their defense, however, I just don’t trust offense that has very little fire power outside of B.J. Stith & Ahmad Caver. Louisiana Tech gave Old Dominion all they could handle on their home court earlier this season and as I think this is going to be a low-scoring close game, I’m going to take the Bulldogs and the points in this one. Good Luck!

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs +3.5
