UAB was strong on the defensive end and pulled away after a 9-1 Blazers run gave UAB a 66-56 lead with 2:41 left in regulation. The Old Dominion Monarchs had their 4-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 16-5 (7-2 C-USA) on the season after being defeated by the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, 66-59, this past Thursday. In a tight back and forth game, Old Dominion struggled offensively down the stretch and couldn’t fight back after an 8-0 Blue Raiders run gave Middle Tennessee a 65-56 lead with just 0:26 seconds left in regulation. Old Dominion shot just 36.8% from the field and 20.0% (5-25) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Monarchs was Randy Haynes who had 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. On the season, Old Dominion is averaging 73.4 ppg on 44.2% shooting from the field. The Monarchs are averaging 6.3 three-pointers per game on 33.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Defensively, Old Dominion is holding their opponents to an average of 63.0 ppg on 40.2% shooting from the field. The Monarchs have a rebound margin of 5.0 and a turnover margin of 4.2.
The Blazers are 6-16 ATS in their last 22 road games and just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Monarchs are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a losing road record however, are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
UAB has lost 3 of their last 5 games however, the Blazers have a talented roster that has been good on both sides of the ball this season as the Blazers come into this matchup ranked 67th in scoring offense and 81st in scoring defense. Old Dominion couldn’t pick up a big victory over Middle Tennessee State, however, the Monarchs are still one of the top teams in the C-USA this season and have been led by their defense that ranks 12th in scoring defense and 25th defensive FG%. UAB has winning away record (4-3) and as their defense should be able to keep this game close, I’m going with the Blazers to cover with the points.
