Old Dominion Monarchs -2.5 O/U: 126
The UAB Blazers and the Old Dominion Monarchs will match up on the college basketball circuit in the Conference USA Tournament Friday.
UAB rolls into this one at 20-13 overall. The Blazers banged out a 70-61 victory over Middle Tennessee State in the first round of the tournament Wednesday, then dispatched UTSA 85-76 on Thursday to move on.
In the win over the Roadrunners, UAB’s Zack Bryant led the scoring on 24 points with seven rebounds and five assists. Jalen Perry added 18 points and eight rebounds for the Blazers in that one and Lewis Sullivan had 16 points with six boards.
Over on the Old Dominion side, they’re 24-8 on the year. The Monarchs dropped consecutive games versus Southern Miss and UAB to finish off the regular season, but took out LA Tech Thursday in the first round of the tourney.
In the win over the Bulldogs, Old Dominion’s lead scorer was Ahmad Caver with 17 points, eight assists and five rebounds. BJ Stith doubled up for the Monarchs in that one with 10 points and 11 rebounds as well.
UAB is 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win and 6-2 in their last eight overall. The Blazers are 6-2 ATS in their last eight versus CUSA and 0-4 ATS in their last four Friday games.
Meanwhile, the Monarchs are 5-16 ATS in their last 21 versus CUSA and 1-5 ATS in their last six neutral-site games. ODU is 0-5 ATS in their last five overall and 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss.
UAB was down 42-35 at the half versus UTSA, but then rattled off a 50-34 run in the second to take an 85-76 victory that looked a lot more lopsided than the game really was for the most part. The Blazers are beginning a nice postseason run, and it’ll be interesting to see what they’ve got here.
ODU won a lot less convincingly Thursday, and given that they’ve not seen the far side of 68 in any of their last five games, the Monarchs aren’t super reliable these days if they’re not on point defensively. I’m going to roll with the Blazers on the cover here.
