The South Dakota Coyotes and the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles meet in Summit League college basketball action from the Mabee Center on Saturday night.
The South Dakota Coyotes will look to join the fray at the top of the Summit League standings, sitting at 9-3 in conference play after an 8th straight win with an 85-72 win over Western Illinois in their last outing. Tyler Hagedorn leads South Dakota in scoring and rebounding with 18.9 points and 7 rebounds per game while Stanley Umude is 2nd with 16.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Triston Simpson, Cody Kelley and Tyler Peterson each have 11+ points per game as well for the Coyotes this season. As a team, South Dakota is averaging 80.2 points on 49.5% shooting from the field, 39.6% from behind the arc and 76.9% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 73.2 points on 45.4% shooting from the field and 35.5% from behind the arc this season. South Dakota is 5-6 straight up and 4-7 against the spread on the road this season.
The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles will try to make up some ground on the top 3 in the Summit league after improving to 6-5 in conference play with an 81-78 win over Omaha last time out. Emmanuel Nzekwesi leads the Golden Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 16.3 points and 9.9 rebounds per game while Deondre Burns is close behind in 2nd with 15.8 points and 3.8 assists per game. Max Abmas is 3rd in scoring with 14.1 points per game while Kevin Obanor is averaging 11.6 points per game this season to cap off the scoring in double figures for Oral Roberts this year. As a team, the Golden Eagles are averaging 78.5 points on 43.9% shooting from the field, 32.1% from behind the 3-point line and 75.7% from the foul line while allowing opponents to average 72.9 points on 44.7% shooting from the field and 34.4% from 3-point range this season. Oral Roberts is 10-1 straight up and 4-3 against the spread at home this season.
Head-to-head, the home team is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
I get that Oral Roberts has been rock solid at home going 10-1 straight up, but we’re getting a free bucket with a South Dakota team that’s playing much better basketball of the two and are right there in the running for the top seed in the Summit League. There could be major concern of a look ahead for the Coyotes with the top two teams on deck in North Dakota State and South Dakota State, but I think the Coyotes will want to focus and get a win here to bring as much momentum as possible with them into those two key games. I’ll take the free bucket with the Coyotes here as I think South Dakota wins this one outright.
