The Line: Oregon State Beavers -3 -- Over/Under:
The Colorado Buffaloes will travel to Gill Coliseum to take on the Oregon State Beavers this Friday night in College Basketball action.
The Colorado Buffaloes dropped to 8-4 on the season after being defeated by the Iowa Hawkeyes, 80-73, this past Friday. Colorado held a slight lead midway through the 2nd half, however, couldn’t fight back after an 8-0 Hawkeyes run gave Iowa a 61-53 lead with 8:10 left in regulation. Colorado allowed Iowa to shoot 49.1% from the field and was outrebounded by the Hawkeyes by a 43-31 margin. Leading the way for the Buffaloes was McKinley Wright IV who had 21 points, 6 assists, 2 rebounds, and 3 steals. On the season, Colorado is averaging 76.8 ppg on 45.4% shooting from the field. The Buffaloes are averaging 7.0 three-pointers per game on 33.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Colorado has been led by McKinley Wright IV (17.0 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 4.7 apg, 1.3 spg), George King (14.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg), Namon Wright (11.6 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1.1 apg), and Deleon Brown (7.0 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 1.2 apg). Defensively, Colorado is allowing their opponents to average 73.3 ppg on 41.9% shooting from the field. The Buffaloes have a rebound margin of 5.4 and a turnover margin of -2.2.
The Oregon State Beavers had their 6-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 8-4 on the season after being defeated by the Kent State Golden Flashes, 79-78, on December 21st. In a tight back and forth game, Oregon State couldn’t fight back after Kent State used a 17-9 run to take a 68-59 lead with 1:27 left in regulation. Oregon shot just 26.1% (6-23) from beyond the arc and committed 19 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Beavers was Tres Tinkle who had 25 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals. On the season, Oregon State is averaging 76.1 ppg on 47.9% shooting from the field. The Beavers are averaging 5.6 three-pointers per game on 29.9% shooting from the field. Offensively, Oregon State has been led by Tres Tinkle (18.2 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.5 spg), Stephen Thompson Jr. (16.3 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.3 spg), Drew Eubanks (14.6 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 1.6 bpg), and Ethan Thompson (10.3 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.4 apg). Defensively, Oregon State is allowing their opponents to average 70.2 ppg on 42.2% shooting from the field. The Beavers have a rebound margin of 4.2 and a turnover margin of -0.5.
The Buffaloes are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. Pac-12 opponents and just 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 raod games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Beavers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. Pac-12 opponents however, are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games.
Colorado has lost 4 of their last 6 games and has struggled defensively this season as the Buffaloes rank just 210th in scoring defense, 304th in turnover margin, and 112th in defensive FG%. Oregon State has a solid frontcourt led by Tres Tinkle and Drew Eubanks and has been decent on both ends of the court this season as the Beavers rank 154th in scoring offense and 134th in scoring defense. Colorado took advantage of a soft schedule however, has struggled since the competition level has picked up and as I think the Buffaloes will have trouble scoring on the road in this one, I’m taking Oregon State to cover this home spread.
