The Pepperdine Waves and the Oregon State Beavers meet in a college basketball matchup from Gill Coliseum on Monday night.
The Pepperdine Waves will look to pick up a road win after falling to 6-5 on the year after a 78-69 overtime loss to Southern Utah in their last outing. Colbey Ross led the Waves with 24 points on 9 of 18 shooting with a pair of threes and a team-high 7 assists while Jade’ Smith added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double as the only other Pepperdine player to score in double figures in the loss. Darryl Polk Jr. added a team-high 5 steals while Kessler Edwards had 8 points, 7 rebounds and a pair of blocks. Ross leads the Waves with an average of 20.3 points and 6.8 assists per game while Smith leads Pepperdine on the glass with an average of 5.8 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Pepperdine is averaging 80.4 points per game on 45.5% shooting from the field, 37.2% from behind the arc and 73.1% from the foul line this season.
The Oregon State Beavers will be looking for a bounce-back performance after back-to-back losses following a 67-64 loss to Texas A&M in their last outing. Ethan Thompson led Oregon State with 20 points on 6 of 12 shooting with 3 threes while Tres Tinkle had 17 points and 6 rebounds as the only other Beaver to score in double-digits in the losing effort. Alfred Hollins added 8 points along with a team-high 10 rebounds, a pair of steals and a pair of blocks while Kylor Kelley had 6 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Tinkle leads Oregon State with an average of 19.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Oregon State is averaging 72.7 points per game on 45.7% shooting from the field, 33.2% from behind the arc and 68.5% from the foul line this season.
Pepperdine is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a winning record and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Oregon State is 10-22-1 ATS in their last 31 non-conference games and 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games against the WCC while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 home games.
I can understand why this line is where it is, as Oregon State is the better team here and should come away with the win here. However, Pepperdine have shown in the past that they aren’t afraid to step up and go toe-to-toe with the Pac-12, and the Waves have actually done pretty well against the spread on the road dating back to last season. Sure, the Waves are winless in 3 road games this season, and are 1-2 ATS away from home, but the Waves have lost those 3 games by single digits. I need to see that Oregon State is fully back before investing any faith in the Beavers, so I’ll take a shot with Pepperdine and the points here.
