Penn State Nittany Lions -7 O/U: 144.5
The Illinois Fighting Illini and the Penn State Nittany Lions will meet up on the college basketball court Sunday.
Illinois comes into this one at 11-19 this season. The Illini have lost four of their last five games, with a win over Northwestern mixed in with losses to Wisconsin, Penn State, Purdue and Indiana in that time.
In the loss to the Hoosiers, Illinois’ top scorer was Ayo Dosunmu with 16 points, five rebounds and three assists. Giorgi Bezhanishvili added 16 points with eight rebounds and two blocks for the Illini in that one also.
Over on the Penn State side, they’re currently 13-17 this season. The Nittany Lions have won four of their last five games, with victories over Nebraska, Illinois, Maryland and Rutgers in that stretch.
In the Rutgers win, Penn State’s lead scorer was Lamar Stevens on 18 points, five rebounds and three steals. Myreon Jones had a nice line off the bench in that one for the Lions, chipping in 13 points and two boards.
The Illini are 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five versus a team with a losing straight-up record. The under is 63-28 in Illinois’ last 91 road games and 7-3 in their last 10 after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Lions are 7-0-2 ATS in their last nine overall and 4-0-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win. Penn State is 7-0-2 ATS in their last nine versus the Big Ten and the over is 4-0 in their last four home games.
For a while there, Illinois was playing with some fire in their proverbial belly, winning five out of six games and taking out two ranked teams back in January/February.
The Illini have hit the wall since however, and fell 83-76 to Penn State the last time these teams played. I’m not saying I expect Illinois to get a win here, but I think the line is thick enough that they can get in. I’ll take the Illini.
