The Line: Penn State Nittany Lions -9 -- Over/Under:
In NIT college basketball activity on Wednesday, the Temple Owls and the Penn State Nittany Lions will be meeting up at Bryce Jordan Center.
Temple comes into this game with a 17-15 record overall. The Owls have lost five of their last seven games, including Friday’s defeat by Wichita State. In that one, Temple’s Quinton Rose put up 25 points.
Rose leads the Owls in scoring on the year as well with 15.1 PPG and 4.3 RPG. Also in double-figures for Temple are Shizz Alston (13.2 PPG) and Obi Enechionyia (10.9 PPG; 5.8 RPG).
As for Penn State, they’re sitting at 21-13 on the year. The Lions have lost four of their last six games, and dropped to Purdue on Saturday in their last appearance. In that one, Penn State guard Shep Garner logged 33 points.
Tony Carr leads the way for the Nittany Lions on 19.9 PPG this year, and Lamar Stevens has 14.9 PPG. Also in double-figures for Penn State are Mike Watkins (12.1 PPG; 8.9 RPG), Garner (11.1 PPG) and Josh Reaves (10.1 PPG).
The Owls are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five versus the Big Ten and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS win. Temple is also 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine Wednesday games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven non-conference games.
Meanwhile, the Lions are 4-1 ATS in their last five following an ATS win and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 overall. Penn State is also 7-3 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games and the over is 4-0 in their last four Wednesday games.
Temple has been flailing lately, and they’ve had a few difficulties on offense as well. The Owls have scored 66 or fewer in three of their last four losses. As for Penn State, they’re not quite dominant on offense right now either, with 70 or fewer in each of their last five outings. All things considered, I’m going with Temple here in what should be a good matchup.
