The Line: Penn State Nittany Lions -4 -- Over/Under: 134.5
Coming up on Thursday in the NIT college basketball championship, the Utah Utes will be taking on the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Penn State is sitting at 25-13 on the season. The Lions have managed four wins in the NIT Tournament so far, taking out Temple, Notre Dame (no. 1), Marquette and Mississippi State in the Semifinal.
In the Mississippi State game, Penn State’s top scorer was Tony Carr with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists. Shep Garner also had a nice outing, putting up 18 points, three steals and two rebounds.
Utah enters this game with a 23-11 record overall. The Utes have pushed through the NIT Tournament with victories over UC Davis, LSU, Saint Mary’s (who were ranked no. 1) and Western Kentucky.
In the Western Kentucky 69-64 victory, Utah’s leading scorer was Justin Bibbins with 19 points. Also with a solid game was the Utes’ Donnie Tillman with eight points and 10 rebounds off the bench.
The Nittany Lions are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. Penn State is also 4-1 ATS in their last five Thursday games and 16-5-1 ATS in their last 22 neutral-site games.
Meanwhile, Utah is 4-0-2 in their last six Thursday games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six overall. The Utes are also 2-5-1 in their last eight neutral-site games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six versus a team with a winning straight-up record.
Utah has been pretty impressive through this tournament, but the WKU game was a close call. In a sense, it wiped out the confidence from the Utes’ convincing victory over Saint Mary’s. That said, Penn State looked really good on Tuesday and I’m going to ride that wave. I’ll take the Lions.
