WCC college basketball rivals the San Diego Toreros and Pepperdine Waves lock horns on Thursday.

The San Diego Toreros need an immediate change in direction if the team expects to move up the conference standings. San Diego has lost back to back games following a 65-62 defeat to visiting Saint Mary’s as a 9.5 point home dog. The Toreros were outshot 59.1%-44.9% but hit a few more threes and free throws to be competitive.

Isaiah Pineiro kept San Diego competitive with 24 points, four pulls and three assists on 9-17 from the floor and 5-6 at the stripe. Tyler Williams gave the Toreros 12 points on 4-5 from beyond the arc while Isaiah Wright added ten points, six boards and five assists.

The Pepperdine Waves have struggled since opening day with neither end of the floor able to come through. Pepperdine has lost three in a row after an 81-72 loss to the Pacific Tigers where the team allowed 52.5% shooting and responded at 41.1%.

Eric Cooper Jr. topped the Waves attack with 19 points and four pulls on 4-13 from the floor and 8-8 at the stripe followed by Kameron Edwards with 16 points and six boards on 6-10 accuracy. Matthew Atewe gave Pepperdine 14 points and eight rebounds on 7-11 while Knox Hellums and Colbey Ross netted eight points apiece.

Under is 11-4 in San Diego last 15 Thursday games and San Diego are 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 road games. Pepperdine are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 Thursday games and over is 7-2 in Pepperdine last 9 overall and Pepperdine are 7-20-1 ATS in their last 28 home games.

The Toreros really need to piece together a winning streak and this looks like a good place to start…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
