The Idaho Vandals and the Portland State Vikings meet in Big Sky college basketball action from the Viking Pavilion on Monday night.
The Idaho Vandals will try to build some momentum after a 74-71 win over Eastern Washington last time out. Trevon Allen leads the Vandals with 21.5 points per game as the lone double-digit scorer for the Vandals this season. Quinton Forrest has 5.8 points and a team-high 5.9 rebounds while Marquell Fraser has 7.4 points and 2.3 assists per game this season. As a team, Idaho is averaging 66 points on 44.3% shooting from the field, 33.5% from behind the arc and 66.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 70.5 points per game on 43.7% shooting from the field and 31.7% from behind the arc this year. Idaho is 2-9 straight up and 7-4 against the spread on the road this season.
The Portland State Vikings will try to climb some ranks in the standings, sitting at 6-8 in conference play after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 5 games following an 89-81 loss to Eastern Washington in their last outing. Holland Woods leads the Vikings in scoring and assists with 17.3 points and 5.2 assists per game while Matt Hauser is averaging 14.6 points per game. Alonzo Walker is averaging 9.9 points and Sal Nuhu is averaging 9.7 points and a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Portland State is averaging 77.2 points on 44.2% shooting from the field, 32.7% from behind the arc and 70.7% from the foul line while allowing opponents to average 75.7 points on 46.9% shooting from the field and 34% from behind the arc this season. Portland State is 7-3 straight up and 3-6 against the spread this season.
Head-to-head, the underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I get Portland State being favored at home, but both teams have been giving up points left and right, and Idaho is only being outscored by 0.4 more points than Portland State across their last 5 games. Idaho also kept it close against Eastern Washington and won outright while Portland State just let the game get out of hand. I think this is another game that Idaho can keep close and while I’m not sure the Vandals win it outright, I could see it being decided late. I’ll take a shot with Idaho and the points in this one.
