The Sacramento State Hornets will travel to the Chiles Center to take on the Portland Pilots this Saturday night in College Basketball action.

The Sacramento State Hornets improved to 4-1 on the season after defeating the CSU Northridge Matadors, 88-68, this past Saturday. Sacramento State used a late 10-0 run in the 1st half to help take a 44-31 halftime lead and had no trouble securing the victory after taking a 63-40 lead with 12:33 left in the 2nd half. Sacramento State shot 55.0% from the field and outrebounded CSU Northridge by a 43-29 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Hornets was Marcus Graves who had 19 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.

On the season, Sacramento State is averaging 73.4 ppg on 45.0% shooting from the field. The Hornets are averaging 4.2 three-pointers per game on 26.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Sacramento State has been led by Marcus Graves (14.4 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 6.6 apg, 2.4 spg), Ethan Esposito (14.2 ppg, 7.4 rpg), Joshua Patton (13.2 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.6 bpg), and Bryce Fowler (8.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.2 spg).

Defensively, Sacramento State is holding their opponents to an average of 66.4 ppg on 40.6% shooting from the field. The Hornets have a rebound margin of 2.6 and a turnover margin of 1.4.

The Portland Pilots lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 5-5 on the season after being defeated by the Portland State Vikings, 87-78, this past Wednesday night. Portland trailed by just a 46-43 margin at halftime, however, couldn’t fight back after a 16-4 run gave Portland State a 73-54 lead with 8:54 left in regulation. Portland shot 47.5% from the field, however, was outrebounded by the Vikings by a 55-29 margin. Leading the way for the Pilots was JoJo Walker who had 17 points, 7 assists, 2 steals, and a rebound.

On the season, Portland is averaging 76.5 ppg on 45.0% shooting from the field. The Pilots are averaging 7.4 three-pointers per game on 34.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Portland has been led by Josh McSwiggan (15.6 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.7 apg), Marcus Shaver Jr. (14.4 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.8 spg), JoJo Walker (13.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1.0 spg), and Theo Akwuba (6.8 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 2.0 bpg).

Defensively, Portland is allowing their opponents to average 79.1 ppg on 43.9% shooting from the field. The Pilots have a rebound margin of -3.0 and a turnover margin of -0.4.

The Hornets are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Saturday games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Pilots are 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 Saturday games however, just 6-13-1 ATS in their last 20 home games.

Sacramento State is coming off a solid road win and has been decent on the defensive end this season as they currently rank 73rd in scoring defense, 12th in steals per game, and 86th in defensive FG%. Portland has 5 wins on the season, however, the Pilots haven’t played much in terms of competition and have struggled defensively as they rank just 306th in scoring defense and 206th in defensive FG%. Sacramento State has been good ATS on the road as of late and as I just think they are a better overall team than the Pilots, I’m taking the Hornets and the points in this one.

Sacramento State Hornets +2
